I saw one for poetry and one for visual art so i thought this one would be fun.. as always constructive criticism is welcome.
edit: feel free to close this thread or bombard it with ridicule if its already been done or something.

Why thanks  I started playing maybe 13 years ago, but I just do it for fun when I want really. I wrote a bit over the summer but right now I am taking it easy on guitar, the tendons in my arm are fucked from too much rough playing. Tip for you: The secret to good playing is to enjoy it, or don't, but don't try and force it, just play  . Don't get down about the difficulty learning guitar, there are plenty of other things worth getting down about. Music is about freedom and expression, not comparing yourself to others.
I write tons of little lyrics and guitar stuff, but I'm really bad at keeping track of things and getting it all together into songs. Here are some other things that have made it to recording:

Great advice. Over the years I've come to recognize that myself. I first picked up a guitar around 7 years ago, but only played sporadically until now, mostly due to preoccupations with less-than-healthy hobbies. I've never actually seriously tried to teach myself anything beyond tabs until a couple of months ago. I downloaded 20 or so guitar lessons, and so far it's helped a fair amount. It is a little dull though, and sitting through the lessons does take some force.
The actual creative process of songwriting is where I think your advice applies the most. I've tried to force myself to write a good song so many times, and I don't think it's ever worked. A couple of nights ago, I started jamming nonchalantly in a bit of sleepy daze, and ended up creating the groundwork for a couple of songs, musically and lyrically. I even learned a new trick! They're not perfect, and I'm having a bit of trouble polishing them, but it motivated me none-the-less! Right now I'm taking the fragments of one of them, organizing it, adding lyrics, ect. It's much easier to come up with ideas when you have a basis to start from! Whereas before I could not just force out an idea from nothing, now that I have a foundation (and a basic emotional association with the piece) the ideas flow much more readily.

Yeah, music has been more helpful to me than any therapist or doctor. It was a big help in keeping control of my life after years of unhealthy drug use and apathy. Teach yourself to use it as a release and soon enough you'll have a hard time going a day without playing.
