deftones, kazaa, misc rambling on music

The new deftones album comes out in 5 days... be there or be square. I tried to download the songs of kazaa, but they aren't real so i guess i just gotta wait for the release. it's been a long time since i've actually bought music anyway, and the anticipation is kind of exciting. it's the simple things in life
I've been really grooving on Audioslave's "like a stone"... very good tune imho. Real refreshing to hear something a little more "mature" (as in musically) in the midst of a lot of the other half assed and "almost there" songs on the radio these days. I didn't realize who Audioslave actually was, and Chris Cornell's voice is so unique I'm suprised it never hit me before I read about it. For those of you that don't know (or don't care, but i'm gonna tell ya anyway) Audioslave is the band from Rage Against the Machine with Soundgarden's Chris Cornell on lead vocals. I think they've proved to be a great combination, and it was kinda funny to hear the band from rage talk about working with chris... appearently they've never actually played with a vocalist that actually sang melodies
Hrmmm... music.... I've been looking for a new sound in electronic music, from myself and from other artists as well. Everything is starting to sound old and worn out to me. Looking for something a little more evolved, unique, and something maybe a little less dark, like more in that neutral zone. And I'm still waiting to find something that completely blurs the lines between electronic and rock, ie: guitars, vocals, lush electronic textures. I think it would be a beautiful union if done right.
So... music... always great! What's everyone else trippin' on these days?

I wanted to start a band that would sound this way. I guess I still do, but I can't find anyone who plays any instruments around here.

Besides my digital music stuff, I think I could learn drums easy.

If you're looking for electronic music with a "different" feel to it (I'm assuming the electronic music that you've grown tired of is mostly trance-type stuff), try some of these tracks:
Aphex Twin - Afx237 v7 Aphex Twin - Bucephalus Bouncing Ball Aphex Twin - Windowlicker Aphex Twin - On Autechre - Arch Carrier Autechre - Under BOAC Autechre - Acroyear2 Autechre - Caliper Remote Boards of Canada - Alpha and Omega Boards of Canada - The Devil is in the Details Boards of Canada - Julie and Candy Mouse on Mars - Actionist Respoke Mouse on Mars - Pinwheel Herman Mouse on Mars - Tensual
Those are just some personal favorites. As far as the whole "blurring the lines between electronic and rock," I suggest you listen to KMFDM's self-titled album.

not just trance stuff... a lot of electronic in general. everything is "this sound, and thata sound", i just want to hear a different sound and the rare finds of something different are just too rare. very familiar with aphex twin, love him always. been listening to kmfdm off and on for years, great stuff but not exactly the blend i'm picturing in my head. i will definately check out that other stuff though, thanks

100th window by massive attack is great. It might not be what you're looking for but try it anyway...

lol many of Us wish to sound that Way, but it's easier done than said.
Trip-Hop or World Fusion has that kind of sound; the real thing is precious. Massive Attack, yes... certain Beck songs do well with Organic~Electronic. Amon Tobin "Permutations" is mind blowing mushroom-jazz w/ 21st century beatz. Blue Man Group seems to touch on the sound at times...
it seems to me the world is dying for artists in the gno to step up with the Work, i can only think of one group doing this now and their name begins with TOOL.
Smack, have you listened to Forest For The Trees (actual CD) while Beshroomed on Headphones??? i think it would be just the fix yer lookin fer... i gno you've heard me mention it. pm me and i'll send you an original.

how did you learn? were you self taught or did you receive instruction?
i would try to teach myself, but i know i would phase in and out of it too much and i would probably learn quicker if i had someone watching over me.
i would really love to learn though

Smack, do you ever listen to Rasputina? They have a pretty unique sound to say the least. They have 3 full length albums, one of covers, and many remix cd's. Just got the newest remix disc last week. Chris Vrenna does a few of the remixes too which is a bonus. Oh, and the new Tomahawk album is amazing. You heard me right, amazing.............
