Should I invest a few thousand??
    #15513165 - 12/14/11 12:27 AM (1 year, 5 months ago)

Kinda worried about the markets but I think this is most certainly the time to get into this company.

It's a long time investment, a few years but I expect the return to be very nice

What do you guys think ?

GLW is, by and large, an undervalued stock.  With a long term time horizon, GLW may be appropriate perhaps for a retirement account.  I would not however look at it for short term riches, it is simply not growing fast enough.  Furthermore, the path of least resistance for the entire market right now is down.  When the aggregate market is not in a defined uptrend, it's generally best to stand clear.  When we settle up issues in Europe and the S&P starts to trend up again (for more than a few weeks at a time), that will be the time to start putting your money to work.  While things can change at any moment, from where I sit tonight, the market looks considerably more bearish than bullish.  Take heed and be cautious.  Your capital is your most important tool when it comes to investing, so don't lose it!

corning was one of the stocks used to drive the market up years ago and then they pulled the rug out from under everyone. if you look at the long chart it did a 3:1 split right after it peaked. when that stock bottomed out, that was a perfect time to get in. is corning the only company producing touch glass? the only stocks i've held to this day are hog and jnj, i purchased them both in 1993. it does look undervalued but i don't think this is the right time to buy into something right now, especially if it's your first investment. the market is being played so much by big traders. i watched an interview of an market analyst and she said when the market drops 400 points or better a trillion dollars is siphoned out of 401k's. long term investing can pay off in the long haul, but my overall view of the market is it's a sophisticated ponzi scheme really. big money takes an initial position, then it seems they drive the price up with future purchases, increasing their initial investment value, then they sell and drive the price down. it's just the name of the game. i noticed stocks that pay a good dividend tend to rise slow and steady, but that's just my observation, i could be missing something in the bigger picture. wait to see where the markets going i guess because it's really not clear right now and you may be able to get more bag for your buck at a lower price.

good luck man...
