Is there such a thing as dye tests for contams? Like, you add your contam to water and boil and if it turns purple you have so-and-so? Surely there must be chemical tests that the amatuer scientist can do on the cheap. Anyone know of a web resource for advanced chemical mycology?

Cheap and microbes are two words that usually don't go well together. Even with expensive lab gear it is often difficult to isolate an unknown contamination from its environment.
