Failed grow? And a question about teks without vermiculite, coir or perlite.

Hi! I moved to the small country far from civilization.
Owners of local flower/garden shops here know NOTHING about vermiculite or coir! I have tried to grow Cubensis B+ in these conditions: - wheat seeds (from a food store) for mycelium (spawned well!) - soil for flowers (pH ~8, photo of chemical elements list) - water on the fruiting chamber's floor - RH must be ok - temperature of 65 (I also tried to warm it, but it was too much condensate when warming from the bottom and cakes became dry when warming from the top) - pump ventilation 25m every 3 hours
Cakes on photos: first, second About 16-18 days in fruiting chamber.
Now there are about 10-12 small shrooms (2-4mm) and a lot of small white knots. They appeared after cold shock and then stopped to grow. Small shrooms don't rot or grow for 12-14 days (two became blueish, but not black). No contamination, the odor is nice.
I tried to spray water, raise temperature, increase ventilation. No effect. I took the piece of one cake - it was all dry despite of spraying water and good RH (water on the floor makes >95% RH, am I right?).
Could someone tell the reason of my failure? Is it bad or dry soil? Or maybe temperature? (I searched the forum and people say like "65 is ok, but growing is slow")
And, more important, can somebody link to good tek WITHOUT using of vermiculite and coir? I can buy manure or humus. Or maybe hay.
Thanks.

Search "Horse poo tek" if you can't find coir. Also you could use spent coffee grounds as a substrate but horse poo is better. Don't cold shock cubensis, if anything that will hinder your progress. Water on the floor does not mean that the humidity is at 95% or above. Search for a shotgun fruiting chamber (SGFC), they are a good starting point and will give you proper humidty. Also make sure when your misting to do so indirectly, you want as little standing water as possible. Fruiting at room temperature should be fine, you shouldn't have to heat the fruiting chamber. Lastly I have never used a pump to ventilate, but if you test your pump with just straight up fanning you can test for yourself if one method works over the other. I Think I got most of the points and I hope that some of this is helpful, good luck on your next attempt.

Ok, I got some fat little ones: http://imgur.com/8wiWk
They're growing slow for 2 days. Are they aborted?
My fruits from previous grow became big in 3 days (but it was 73F and now I can get only 64).

that pic looks good, but wait a miute.. did you say you used soil as a substrate? how the hell did that work?
ps.you cant use hay, use straw. or even wood.

Use equine manure... If living in the same/similar environment to their native climate; then establishing some outdoor beds may become ideal...
Straw works well... But half decomposed straw works much better!

It worked well, except for fruit bodies. :| (I used soil only for casing, mycelium fed on wheat.)
Flower soil substrate was fully colonized in two days. Then small knots appeared. But the first wave was like 10-12 tiny aborts. Soil is very dry despite me spraying it often.
And I have found vermiculite+perlite bag in a local shop! I'll need to separate it, but that's better than soil. :]

you should still be able to make a SGFC using the verm-perlite without seperating it all. place youe colonized tub in the SGFC, you can even pop it out so its like one huge cake, you might even be better off doing that

I want to separate vermiculite for cakes and casing, not for SGFC. But anyway my next grow will be SGFC-based. Pump is too noisy and current RH is questionable. :]

you know what might solve all your problems... try growing some stones, I have some ATL7 going right now, you dont need to do anything but watch them grow, no substrate , no chambers, nothing. and its very very stealthy.

Thanks, I haven't heard of them before. I'll try it later.
Must master regular cubes grow anyway!

Ok, it isn't failed grow! Third wave:
Second wave was smaller but the point is DUNK YOUR CAKES before the first wave if you have no access to vermiculite!!

Interesting to see this done with soil as a substrate. Nice work.
