Rothbury 2009, Music Festivals, and Glowstick Wars

Yeah, I know, this is a mish mash of topics here, but I have gotten into a discussion with fellow shroomery facebook peoples and I wanted to just let it out there.
Rothbury in 2009 was possibly... no, absolutely... the best weekend in my entire life. And the SCI show in 2009 was absolutely the best show I have ever seen in my entire life. If anyone has ever been to music festivals, you will know what a glowstick war is. So we got into this little phase of one upping each other on glowstick wars until we both finally posted the BEST glowstick war either one of us had been a part of... so here are 4 videos for all of you to watch, starting with Phish in Roo 2009 (Meh... It was pretty good when you watch it, but then when you see the ones that come after, you see what a REAL glowstick war is like), then Trey speaking about the philosophy of the band interacting with glowstick wars, followed by my friend's best glowstick war he's ever been a part of, and lastly followed by the best one I have ever been a part of.
So those of you with some time to spare:
Phish 2009 Bonnaroo
Trey discussing glowstick war/band interaction
Incredible Bassnectar glowstick war. I give this one probably the best singular glowstick moment I've ever seen (in the beginning), and one of the best sustained glowstick wars I've ever seen:
And my best glowstick war was SCI 2009, right before and then during Desert dawn... Not as good a singular moment (like the beginning of the bassnectar), but watch how long this crazy amount of glowsticks goes for and how many must be getting thrown...
ENJOY!

Sure glowsticks look cool but a lot of artists have got publicly butthurt over them and banned them from their shows. I don't blame them either as I don't particularly enjoy getting smacked in the head four times in rapid succession with glowsticks while I'm on a good one at a show and Murph from STS9 got nailed in the face by one and they could also damage equipment. But yeah they do look pretty amazing especially when the music plays along.

Outdoor festies and glowsticks will always go hand and hand...
It would be hard to have these levels of glowstick wars indoors.

Yeah that makes sense. A lot of stupid candy kids do throw them around indoors which sucks. STS9 banned them from all their shows so it must of got out of control.

Even outdoor?
I doubt outdoor...
Definitely not festivals. It would be impossible to ban glowsticks from festivals... lol.
Umphreys banned indoor for a small venue I go to a lot, didnt really fault him for it.

I don't think any one band can make rules for a festival, probably just their shows. But if it's their festy I bet they would. I remember reading the email Murph sent out about it and he ranted so hard about his hate for glowsticks it was insane.

My first experience with the glowstick war was at this year's Waka. That shit's pretty awesome to be right in the middle of.
I wasn't here for this, but this is a clip from Dispatch's free show at Hatch Shell in Boston. They just happen to substitute glowsticks with water bottles. The DVD version has a view of this from the stage, and it's pretty insane. The band had to stop the show and tell everyone to chill the fuck out.

I had a laser attempted to be confiscated from me from a festival. I've got the most powerful one at most festies (350 mw green), although every now and then someone will challenge me with one thats probably more powerful.
I laughed at him and just ran into the crowd, and stopped using it for their show.
There were definitely glowsticks though!

That's cool. Reminds me of chilly water with Widespread.

On some sort of philosophical level I think I'm against glow sticks, but on a practical level..
those things are pretty damn fun when you're on drugs

Word.....
I was personally there for the Bassnectar @ ALLGOOD '10.
Entire weekend was sick, def the best festival I have been to yet. Can't see any future shows of Bassnectar to be fun, as they are usually overpacked with highschool and freshman college kids rolling for the first time. That summer ('10) was when he was blowing the fuck up, got his sound established and was really on fire. He's only goten bigger since, and still love his mixes. Nothing wrong with a bunch of new folks at his shows, and he deserves the money/success, but kids coming to shows outside festivals are getting younger and stupider. Personally watched at least 3 kids get wheeled out in the ambulance at a show this spring.
Glowsticks are hit and miss, but some nights, when the mood/music and buzz is right, ill be tossin...

Bonnaroo 2010 was the best weekend of my life. I'm so excited for next years round of festies!
