I see several problems:
1. the permission, I don?t think it?s so easy to get one
2. the book, do you have it?
3. the scan work, are you gona do it?

Perhaps the community could collaborate on a Shroomery Guide to Magic Mushrooms, a finalized book or set that could be sold to support our favorite site! I suppose the cost of printing it would be exorbitant however...

I think these are all really good ideas. I have access to text scanning equipment, if we find a solution to the copyright issue I'd be happy to scan and format.
I know a little bit about publishing too, if it ever gets that far. Scientific journals cite text from copyrighted works all the time. If we were doing this non-profit it might be possible to use citations and footnotes along with contributors' research to create our own journal or compilations. Printing costs are not as bad as you'd think. I know a graphic designer who gets her books printed in china, she does it all herself.

If the Admins and Mods want to create a book(s) using input from the entire comunity, perhaps they should set up some sort of committee including Mods, Adimins, and well known shroomery members. From there, members could be assigned portions of the book to write, which would then be submitted to the committee to review/edit. Or maybe open submissions could be offered, and the committee could then combine, modify, and adapt portions and well worded sections from all over.
I'm sure with all the great ideas floating around this place, a whole series of books could be made, each valuable to any mycologist.
Edit:
Pictures would be cool. It would increase the production costs, however, would also increase the value of the book(s).
Even if production of the book(s) becomes unfeasible, it would at least make one hell of an e-book!
