 Best Acoustic Guitar Songs for a Newbie?

I have just started learning to play guitar.
I bought a yes, a 20 dollar shitty guitar of Amazon, just to see if I was going to commit to learning how to play. Boy was that fucker painful. I didn't know any better and bought a steel string. It had such high action that I had to crunch my fingers into position to strike a chord.
But after a couple months I decided that I really did want to play guitar and that I had the committment to learning, so I bought a Yamaha acoustic guitar. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FIZISQ ; This is an amazing instrument. It has low action, beautiful tone, great sustain, and was only 200 bucks.
I have been learning the beginning rudiments from the Hal Leonard Essential Elememts book, which is much better than the Mel Bay beginners guide.
And I glean chords and songs from www.e-chords.com ; which is a really good site for clear chord pictures and tabulature.
BUT, I am still looking for that one song which is the acoustic be-all for a beginner. So many acoustic songs have either a complex mix of rhythm and lead, or are so simple as to be too boring. What I want is something challenging, delicious sounding, but also simple enough to stick.
At any rate, what are some of your favorite acoustic songs? So far Bowie tunes have been the best. Also some STP songs like Creep.

well this isn't STP(i dig STP) and it might not be the best song out there but it is easy enough to play, it's chord changes are smooth... it's an acoustic cover of The Verve Pipes song entitled "Colorful"... it's one of my wife's favorite songs... i play it for her from time to time...

i realize you are looking for songs a beginner could get into but i thought this might help inspire you... learn how to play this  i first discovered Andy McKee during our vacation in Vancouver... he's one of my favorite acoustic players, i have all of his CD's off the candyrat label... here he plays his version of Tears for Fears song "Everybody Wants to Rule the World"...

He's pretty awesome and he takes fingerpickin to a new level. I hate when people say they can fingerpick rock and roll and then do a rock song in a country manner. But that guy is good. Beautiful guitar too.

You're right, it's good stuff. I really want a specific song through which isn't too hard, or too easy. I know I am asking for alot. I just want to learn something for a guitar newbie that I can impress the wife ith (and she will be easy to impress since she doesn't expect me to know anything!)

Every hippy I've ever seen with an acoustic seems to know "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd.
It may be more of an intermediate song, but in my experience learning and progress comes from playing things that are just out of your reach.

Wonderwall by Oasis is pretty easy for the most part, you are only moving your index and middle finger. It requires a capo but you can make your own with a rubber band and a pencil or something else solid.
