 Crazy Ass Casing questions !

A foaf has a tray which he cased 5 days ago with verm/coir....but only a thin < .25 inch layer because he ran out of casing mix. after day 2, the tray had colonized this thin casing and this foaf decided to make more mix and increase the casing depth to 1" total. Well foaf was out of town for the weekend and he comes back today (day 5) to see a mostly uncolonized tray with one pin at one end and an abort....about the size of a Coke can around and about 3" tall....one hell of an abort!!!!
So the questions are...did the added casing create humidity for the already colonized thin casing? did I screw my pinning up? I'm guessing I did.
Has anyone ever tried to provide humidity to an already colonized casing by adding more casing? How would air exchange work if you did this?

A second layer of casing is usually added if you get overlay on the first casing and it doesn't pin.
The second flush may be better.

I agree, wait for the second flush. Pinning was probably close when the second casing layer went on top, and the mycellium didn't get to work its way up toward the top quite like it might want to. A little more vegetative growth will probably do wonders for it.
oh yeah, and DAMN! that is one HELL of abort.
