Hi all, I've started to become interested in mushroom hunting, only to find out that the season just ended a while ago. But lately there has been a lot of rain in Melbourne. I was thinking of going and trying my luck on the next sunny day. Would I be trying in vain? Is there any chance that I'd stumble across anything?
Edit: Looking forward to next season!

Habitat: Tan-Bark over soil.
Gills: White gills
Stem: ~ 8cm long and pretty thick, white, soft and wet in fresh mushroom. thinner and dry in old specimen.
Cap: ~10cm diameter. GOLD, pretty cool. Some are sort of gold-brown. the old mushroom had a shrivelled up cap. I find that they get holes in the cap quite often.
Spore print color:
Bruising:
Other: The weather has been pretty warm the last couple days, with lots of rain before that. I have seen lots of mushrooms in this area before, always wondered what the heck they are!!! They grow right outside my window.

Hard to tell what it is but it's not a magic mushroom. Would need some more pictures of different specimens for an id at this stage.
The season for magics in Melbourne is well over and you'll have to wait until late June- early May until they start to fruit again.
In the meantime if you find some mushrooms and need an id you should make your own thread in the main forum.
This thread is officially over until someone bumps it again and Alan locks it.

I hope people don't seriously imagine that they will discover or abrupt upon active mushrooms in Melbourne this time of the year. The only way you'll find them in Melbourne now is if you happen to come across someone's home grown mushrooms, which would likely not be subs anyway.

Thats true. I knew these ones werent magic, but was curious what they were. i walk passed them all the time. Theres always a few sporadically fruiting here and there. Perhaps that means this environment is good for growing other species? Is it? Its a tan-bark area is low level country of western Melbourne. I was thinking of getting some spore prints and trying my long-term luck.
