I saw some mushrooms growing in some mulch and they looked just like mini gyms. Could this be n n.e Ohio? Was at work and had no camera on me. Is it possible? Likely? Your thoughts?

I suppose it's possible if the conditions are right. Some mycelium or spores get on the mulch...temps and moisture are right...bam, Gyms.

They're fruiting in this region now i think.
G. Aerugenosis are like mulch, and they are on the locations list for Ohio. I found these active gyms last week which could possibly be G. Aer., and the largest has been 5cm.

I've seen and heard of them growing on mulch, one of the best pictures I've seen of Gyms was a group of maybe 30 plus growing on mulch. The guy had at least 4 different pictures of them growing on mulch (each one a different patch). They grow on underground pieces of wood in the wild so if you had the right wood-chips, it is very possible.

Need pics.
There's been tons of ringless honey mushrooms fruiting lately.
