Attorney granted more time in Vacaville murder case
A Solano County Superior Court judge on Tuesday granted an attorney an additional two months to study evidence before setting a trial date for a Vacaville man accused of the gunshot slayings of two of his friends and the serious wounding of another.
Richard Ruben Calkins is charged with two counts of murder in connection with the deaths of Cameron Scott Silva, 20, and Richard Matcham Perez, 20, after a night of indulging in psilocybin mushrooms at a William Street apartment in Vacaville on Nov. 16, 2010. Additionally, he is charged with shooting Silva's girlfriend, Sarah Jane Berkheimer, 20, in the face.
In court Tuesday, Calkins' defense counsel, Chief Deputy Public Defender Oscar J. Bobrow asked for more time to prepare. Judge Donna Stashyn set 9 a.m. on Nov. 21 for Calkins to return to court for a trial date setting.
After the shootings, Calkins was quickly located in the Vacaville Police Department lobby on Merchant Street, where he had broken the glass and entered, still armed with a .40-caliber semi-automatic handgun, according to testimony from his June preliminary hearing.
He was subdued by a Taser round on the steps outside the lobby by police, causing him to fall and hit his head. He remained hospitalized for several weeks before police could interview him about the crimes.
He remains in Solano County Jail custody without bail.

i dont understand why ppl dont take the time to find a safe place to trip... an apartment with a gun is definatly not at the top of my list

a bad trips even worse with hostility or violence. i once saw my friends in a fist fight while tripping. i thought they were gonna kill each other and it caused me to have a severe panic attack. I cant imagine a bad trip involving a gun

I do sort of think that anyone could potentially do fucked up shit on shrooms. They can fuck with your mind so bad sometimes. The dude does look insane though and probably had underlying mental problems.

Agreed... but is there much difference between "snapping" on mushrooms and doing something you remember but regret compared to "blacking out" on alcohol where you do something you DON'T REMEMBER with less coordination, less inhibition and a tendency towards belligerence.
