On the shroomery, since about 2006, there has been a small group of members, myself included, consistently lobbying for gold and silver investing.
We always advocated doing your own research and taking personal responsibility for your investmens.
And oh boy! Gold was under 700 and now its been over 1900, silver was about 10-12 and now has been around 50-55.
I know for a fact several shroomerites listened, did their own research, were in a position to act and made thousands.
Who is with us?
Who was with us?
Who's thinking of hopping aboard?
When did you get in?
Which metals?
How much increase have you seen?
You can post anonymously if you feel like disclosing graphic details, but please keep it neutral and show yourselves.
For me it started in 2006 with a careful 5 troy ounces of gold
and progressed from there. From gold I gravitated towards silver because I think thats where the biggest gains will be.
I invested "a lot" of what I have available over the years and it went to about 250%-300% in value.

My core holding has been in numismatic coins (predominantly $20 & $10 Liberty coins along with some $5 & $10 Indians) purchased in November 2006. I would've done significantly better with straight bullion, but since these were purchased principally for asset diversification and not as an investment per se, they have served their purpose. I would still advocate bullion over numismatics, as I last advocated one year ago in this forum.
I have also traded in and out of the exchange traded gold and silver funds (GLD & SLV). I in fact just today dipped my toe into SLV with some November $39 calls on this morning's weakness that seemed to stem in large part from dollar strength. Put plainly, so long as the US and other nations of the world attempt to inflate their way out of crushing debts, the fundamental thesis behind allocating a portion of one's assets into precious metals is pretty solid.
To those with no position, I would suggest that this is an appropriate time to start legging into a new position, with the intention to add to your position on subsequent weakness, likely to be perpetuated should the EU financial system breathe a sigh of relief from some sort of collaborative effort in attempts to resolve their debt issues and save the Euro. Gold at $1600/oz is where I start to get more interested. Silver at $30 - $35. Note that these levels are predicated upon trading psychology, not upon fundamental calculation. Thus, they are subject to change when the macro economic picture and/or market sentiment changes.

Zappa you know very well that your profits are only potentially as big as your principal will allow.
percentage gains and all
had one bought a billion in silver ten years ago it would today net them about 8 or 9 billion.
It also just goes to show that many rich people are also horrid bums, they just know a better way to cheat the system.
Its not fair for someone to multiply and net that kind of money just because he has lots of money to begin with.
its welfare for the rich.

But of course, true with any investment.

I got in on silver first when I was in high school when I bought 10 maple leaf coins. Silver was $5 an ounce then.
Then, I got in again in a much more serious way in 2008. In fact, I put way too much of my money into metals. I could have been considered a gold bug. The investment paid off well, but I wouldn't do the same thing today. I saw gains of 160% on my silver and about 100% on gold. I now find it much too risky to go too heavy into metals. I shoot to keep about 10% of my wealth in metals to act as a hedge against inflation and a turbulent economy.

Gaining much much more money in proportion to the same or less work just because you have money to begin with is like welfare, that money is taken out of circulation for others.
IMO its a form of usury, and its why not ALL rich people deserve tax breaks.

Yes i do own silver and im making bank, but i also think it is wrong and unjust.
im making money basically because the economy is crashing and causing widespread suffering.
i would rather not make free, unearned money, earn it by contibuting to society and have others have a better quality of life.
But i am somewhat unselfish and have a concience.

If gold closes under 1730 today, i think we will go even lower next week. But long term anyway very good imo. Im hoping for a qe3 announcement this weekend!
