 I think my xbox 360 laser burned my game

Was playing my game for 2 months with no problems what so ever. Then all a sudden my disc was unreadable Have you guys ever had this problem? I keep my discs in great condition.

If you move your box while the disc is spinning it will scratch the disk, maybe the box got hit or nudged........??

there is a devise on the laser referred to as the pot. it has 2 rheostat on it. one affects the amount of power the laser gets when reading dvds. u can turn it's resistance all the way down until the laser burns out and still not have any affect on the disk. burn disk use inks that a hot laser affects, a 360 laser turned all the way up doesn't even affect them.
edit: thinking about your issue, i am more willing to bet it is your laser going out.

that is typical of a laser going out. one game will quit, then a few more, then all of em. that is assuming his disk isn't damaged like he said.

Mine does the same thing, itll burn in circular scratches and etches in the disc, totally fucking it. Get in the habit of installing video games you dont want to lose, onto your harddrive then when this happens you can player it off your HD, you still need your disk but it wont matter how scratched it is.

it is not burning the circle in your disk, that is a scratch. if they had lasers that powerful in drives, we wouldn't need ink based blanks, we would just laser etch our backups. that scratch is cased by the disk shifting in its carrier and making contact with something. if anyone ever told yall a laser can burn a scratch in the disk, then i suggest not even taking advise from them on how to turn on a light.
snoot is right, install your games to hdd, then as long as the console can recognize the game, it will boot the copy on the hdd. also, there is a mod coming soon that will allow hdd booting without using a disk, if u don't use live, u should seriously consider this mod.

Literally impossible.
If it's one of the old models it might have a bad DVD drive that can chew discs up. If that's the case there will be a deep, obvious ring gouged into the disc.

yeah definitely scratches, my elite does this and its not even a year old, its just a good habit to get into to install your games. What is the MOD called do you know?

There is a mod coming out very soon similar to the Jtag hack called the reset glitch. It will allow diskless gameplay, but it and the Jtag are not live safe. For those of u constantly getting ring scratches, what orientation is your box? It us best to keep it laying flat.

If you have a laser strong enough to write CDs or DVDs, you have a laser strong enough to burn a disk. It does not burn it in the sense you might think, but it burns the reflective "1" binary code to a non-reflective "0."
Your computer probably has the capability to do this. If you burn all the 1s and 0s into only 0s, you have no information on the disk anymore, and it's effectively useless. It may not be charred and melted, but it is burned. A disk burner isn't just called a "burner" because they felt like it, but because it burns zeros into a CD or DVD containing all 1's.
I don't know if this is true of the Xbox though. I don't know if the Xbox has a burning feature either. But many lasers in common use do have the ability to burn disks.
In the previous thread, I believe several other people were actually told by Microsoft when they called that they had a laser burn. You'll see someone in this thread also claimed Microsoft told them that their disk was burned. If the Xbox doesn't have a burning feature, then there's no way a malfunction could cause the laser to work above reading function and burn the disk. But I think it's possible that maybe if the console is bumped, the disk can move closer to the laser, causing it to burn in a way that it wouldn't if it was a normal distance from the laser. I might be mistaken here though.
Edit: I think I misread your post. I wasn't aware blanks and commercial disks were produced differently. I assumed they were the same. So I suppose blank disks are capable of being burned with the writing laser, but commercially produced disks are created in another fashion? I think that's what you were saying, right?
Still, why would Xbox tell their customers their disk is burned when it's scratched?
