he never said how long he let them cool for so idk why people are assuming they were too hot. cool to the touch is what u want and thats what he claims he did so im assuming thats not the case

Saying he waited for them to be cool to the touch isn't a very precise measurement. It implies he may or may not have waited long enough, especially considering one's perception of "cool" isn't the same as another's.

I'm not saying that they were too hot. I'm just saying that it's possible. Once the topic creator chimes in with an estimated amount of time he waited, I'll most likely retract my thought, but considering he has no growth whatsoever, something had to have happened -- and a hot temperature could have been that thing.

U saying you always left your jars at room temp overnight before inoculation?  Maybe I should've waited longer.
I did wait until they were cool to the touch.  But in truth...it was probably only an hour or so after boiling them for 90 minutes.

If you are saying you wait overnight after sterilization...then maybe thats what I should try.  Out of ten jars....onl3 3 showed any mycelium.  So I dont understand why these 3 went on and did what they were supposed to while leaving the others stunted like this?

Should I have used fine verm?  Would it have made THAT much of a difference?

On the Brown Rice Flour..it was organic BRF I got on ebay.  I was kind of speculative because it arrived in a freezer bag.  But it seemed to be the right consistency, and like I said...the other 3 jars are still going....so?  I dunno?  Can anyone tell me where I should be getting my BRF?  Where is the best place?  Where do you get yours?

I believe this couldve been the problem.

I pulled this right off here at Shroomery.org

What is the point of each step in the recipe?
Water content should also be kept as close to the ratio provided as well. Too much water and too little water both can slow the colonization of substrate to a halt. Plus, too much water will make the mix pasty and muddy - so that the mycelia will have a hard time colonizing through it.

I  kind of think maybe if I didnt let it dry all the way....it might have had too much moisture.  I dont know...just a guess....

I personally abandon mission at 7 days.. but I mean if you are not in a rush/don't need the jars.. I'd give it 14 I guess (though I seem to consistantly have results in 3-5 days from MS).

I agree. I always wait over night for my jars.. but just a side note on the cool to touch thing. Lets say  room temp in your room is 79F, and you have jars that have cooled overnight. They should be room temp 79F. If you are using jars waiting for them to be cool to touch..the difference in feeling from 79f to 89 f is not signifigant.

When I pastuerize coir/verm (or whatever) I always am waiting for it to get down to 82 before I work with it (just a mental thing I guess). It actujqally feels cold and wet and its still 90F sometimes!!!

Come on buffer.... BRO, why would you even turn those things upside down? Your verm layer is probably soaking wet now, especially since your substrate looks a little on the wet side. You might wanna scratch those and make new ones.

Yeah...you are right man.  The ONLY reason why I turned them upside down....was because I was getting desperate to see anything.  I had heard sometimes it could kick start the jars.  But you are right.  I can see what you are saying now about my verm layer being soaking wet now.

I trashed these.....and am gonna learn from all of you.

Guys thanks a lot for taking the time to help a less experienced person out.  I appreciate the attention you all have given this thread.  For real.

Hindsight...I feel like a fuckin idiot for ruining these.  I guess this is part of the learning process.  Just guess I wouldve read more.  I think i got too caught up in the excitement.  You can be sure...this shit wont happen again to me....

Thank you to all who replied.  I really appreciate your advice....

Add the verm + brf, add water very slowly, stir it and tilt the bowl to make sure theres no pooling water.

Its as simple as that. Those jars are doomed for bacteria, just toss them.

Don't forget to wipe inside the jar before adding the dry verm filter layer

I used course verm and 4 out of my 5 jars look ok

Try adding gypsum too...add it to your dry ingredients in your substrate

Hey thanks for the heads up with the gypsum.  In your opinion...how much per jar? What is the ratio I should use if my substrate consisted of  1 cup Brown Rice Flour (organic), 1 cup water, 2 cups of Verm?  Just asking...

Its 1tbs per 5 jar batch

The gypsum I bought came in little tiny pellets so I crushed it into powder before adding to my verm...I'm probably  being anal...i think being a little anal helps, just use lube

Dude, you definitely have to let the jars cool longer than an hour before you 'noc them up! I'd bet that's what killed your spores. Well....at least you know better now...

Haha!  You got me laughin over here about the lube...and being anal!  Thats funny...

Kool...I will try the gypsum.  And I agree...being anal about getting these things going the right way, cannot hurt..if you really want results.

Thanks much bro....

Im learning...thanks to all of you. Thanks.

No doubt....I see your point. And I should've known  better.
Thanks for helping me man, and thanks for not making me feel like a dumb-ass....Im doin' a pretty good job of that myself.  Insult to injury always makes it a little more tough.
Trust me, Im still trying to get over the fact that I "single-handedly"  have ruined my crop!  Still pissin me off over here...
