Morning glories won't flower
    #14896903 - 08/09/11 05:24 PM (1 year, 10 months ago)

I have some very nice looking Heavenly blue and Flying saucers MG vines growing outside in my backyard.. They are pretty big now and I've only got two flowers so far... Any suggestions to get it to start blooming?

give them some time. forcing a plant to flower is never a wise idea. if you can see flowers forming you've got nothing but to wait. it means they're not yet mature enough. would you build a roof without having walls?

just as a side note, certain plant hormones like gibberellic acid or cytokinins induce premature flowering in some plants, but I'm sure that GA3 on morning glories will do nothing else than speed up their growth, if used in low concentrations.

i have a heavenly blue vine and some mixed strains growing and they've yet to flower.

Mine normally flower a shit load in August but it's taking a little longer this year for some reason.

Yeah, we still have plenty of time left for the season, even in August.  I sometimes forget that only to be reminded by good things later on.  You shouldn;t need it, but something like bonemeal might help you get some more blooms.

My grandpa ott's are going crazy! 2 plants and 10-20 blooms every morning, it's a great gift to see out my window when I wake up. It, however, started as 1 bloom, then a week later they went nutso, and there's still more coming. Best of luck, I've noticed though (mine are potted) tons of water is appreciated by the plant.

We're still in the midsummer season. Blues are late summer and fall blooming flowers. Not to worry. Patience is your friend. Cool nights will bring on the buds. Lots of sources will tell you not to water or feed your girls but I always did with great results and astounding displays. Use a high phosphorous fertilizer (the middle number) and follow label directions.

If you're regularly watering, I would reconmmend holding back and stressing the plant which will induce budding.

just dont stress it out to much and make sure they are in full sun. They love sun.

It's been dry, hot, and sunny this past week, and just this morning it looks like it rained pretty hard and cooled down to low 80f

*i have heavenly blues and a much more impressive-growing passionflower-leaf-shaped morning glories of an unknown color.

just to add a quick observation, I accidentally uprooted both plants at least once each.  One plant was also transplanted from a pot into the ground.  Both are doing really well and seem to recover from root play very quickly.

The vine is really healthy. The growth of it was fast.. It is still growing.it's been in the 90's hear for a month straight with little rain. I have to water them a couple times a day because they wilt up. Within ten minutes of watering they perk right up...... I guess I was just expecting them to bloom a little sooner. I'll be patient.

Well thanks again guys. It seems just having a little patience has worked. There is flower buds growing all over the vines. I see dozens of them...

mine started flowering as well, and I water mine whenever the leaves aren't turgid.

The flowers ended up being purple, and I'm wondering how closely the two types of Morning Glory are to each other.

i have the type that looks kinda like it has passion flower-shaped leaves, and one heavenly blue with the regular heart leaves/

the one that's not edible is also very hairy all over the vine.
