I was able to find GTA4, Halo Reach, Oblivion, fuck, every major release day 1 within the first 3 places I looked every time. It isn't like they are gonna print too few discs or someshit...
Happens to me all the time man, you would be surprised. When Black Ops first came out I looked everywhere. Every place I went said they would be out til the following Tuesday since that's when they get their shipments. Ever since then I make sure to ALWAYS preorder the good games.

Gaming is bigger now though, Reach sold so many discs it effected the world economy, companies have huge heads with and will not under stock.
supply and demand.

You do have a good point.... It was 10x harder to get a PS2 or Xbox game the day it came out back when the PS2 and original Xbox were still popular. Compared to the past it's not too bad now. I still like to preorder just in case, especially with Skyrim.

God it looks AMAZING. NEver really got into Oblivions "ye olde" theme. But Skyrim looks like the sequel morrowind never had! Glad they are using a new engine too

Looks good, but the fact that there are now 18 skills and no separate curiass/greaves doesn't bode well for those of us who felt Oblivion was a step in the right direction graphically/gameplay wise but lacked the overall content and character customization options it could have had.
It's more or less unanimous among vetted PC gamers that Morrowind was the better game when you see the two compete in "best lists", because the kind of people who really dig these games are usually also interested in having lots of stuff to play with. This excludes the individuals who showed up late to the party and never experience the depth of Morrowind from an unbiased perspective, of course.
Now we're looking at having two handed / one handed. No more blade / blunt, which was already a severe downgrade from having long blade, short blade, and blunt skills separately. Every skills has been simplified like this. You can easily defend these decisions by noting the marked point that they make gameplay more fluid- but how close The Elder Scrolls can push to a Dungeon Siege style game where you play Big Hair Awesome Sword Monster Killinguy? Isn't half the fun finding new items and choosing the look and feel of your character?
On one hand, if they make character specialization less important it makes an easier game; on the other it kills a lot of replay value if every character can wield every weapon with equal ability.
They always justify these kinds of things in really bunk ways that basically say to me (those kids with their Xboxes can't handle this level of complexity with only analog sticks to navigate the UI, shh- here's a modding API) they're catering to the more casual audience. They claim combining curiass/greaves allows them to render more characters on the screen... anyone who knows jack about computer graphics knows this is total bollocks. Similarly, they claimed they removed Medium armor class with Oblivion's release to "improve the distinction between light and heavy armor" - not to mention that there are a lot less armor pieces and options in Oblivion compared to it's predecessor.
They're removed a lot of things that weren't necessarily popular features but did work well and added satisfying depth to the game for those who invested the time to discover them, and if that trend continues too much, Skyrim could end up being mediocre and the first TES game to certifiably not do the series justice.

Exactly. I played Morrowind first and loved it, and I played Oblivion when it came out and loved it just as much. I hate all the negative attitude towards Oblivion. Sure we lost a lot of customization and things we liked, but many things were actually improved greatly. It will probably be the same with Skyrim. They are different games and they are all excellent games. Skyrim looks like it will be incredibly immersive and I for one cannot wait to waste away hundreds of hours on it. For all the complaints, I say, "buy it for PC because you can mod the shit out of it to your liking!"

Curass and greaves are the saame now? Lol wtf, so you only need to find 3 pieces for a full suit of armor( helm, boots)? I remember it was so much fun hunting for those damn elusive daedric pauldrons and glass gloves, then enchanting all the different pieces to give my guy crazy stats. I really don't like this simplification.
I'll still play the shit out of it though.

I love Oblivion, but feel if they go much farther down from there they will ahve oversimplified. The depth of character creation is half of what makes the Elder Scrolls fun, and if you were playing it as a hack'n slash, well, blah. There are much better game sin that genre anyway.
I can't wait also, but I am apprehensive/reserved. I enjoyed Oblivion thoroughly. I just hope there's as much depth to the new game, you know?
Look at Dragon Age, for example. The first one was practically Dungeons and Dragons, and lots of people loved it for that. Then they release the second one and you're basically guaranteed to use the same abilities over and over throughout the entire game and it just turns into a homogenized mess that isn't satisfying at all.

Some games such as Mass Effect, though, fit better in their simplified form for example. The simplification on that sequel really made it shine because Mass Effect was never much of an RPG to begin with. TES is not like that. IMO, for the Elder Scrolls, it's basically "the more the merrier" when it comes to features.

I agree with you 100% man. Another popular game that removed a ton of features from it's prequel was GTA 4...
GTA: San Andreas had all kinds of different planes, boats, choppers, and even a parachute to sky dive with... Then GTA 4 came out with a couple of choppers and no planes whatsoever.
If Bethesda does the same thing (removing a ton of features) with Skyrim it will most likely be a let down just as GTA 4 was.

Gta4 may have cut features, but it was a step up for the series. I expect the san andreas stuff will be back for the next title.
