**GROW LOG** 1st Attempt (B+, Gold Teacher) 8/18

From this moment forth, I will update in this 1st post and answer questions in reply form.
PF Tek Jars
July 22 ~12:29am 3 jars where pasteurized in boiling water for 2hrs and let cool. 2 syringes of B+ spores where prepared in a sterile work environment. The jars where inoculated and placed away.
July 23 -3:30pm 3 more BRF jars where prepared and 1 LC was also added (and sterilized) These jars where then inoculated with Golden Teacher spore syringes. The Liquid Culture was inoculated with B+ spores only. I may make a Golden Teacher LC too compare but that has yet to be seen. In the near future I want to inoculate the remaining 3 jars I have with the B+ LC for comparison over the plain BRF tek jars.
July 25 -2.06am God I'm getting so anxious. This is becoming quickly exciting! I think I can see some early [gradient:#BD3C00,#]mycelium growth[/gradient] in B+ jar #2! I had some left over Golden Teacher spores from my last batch so I decided to make another while I had nothing to do this afternoon. That jar was sterilized and inoculated after it cooled off for a while. I have some pictures of my jars.. nothing exciting... YET Relating to B+ jar #2 I wasn't sure if it was just a clump of BRF but I am almost certain now that it has grown at least a small bit and is increasingly fuzzy. The first 3 in the photos bellow are 3 f the 4 golden teacher jars and then the other picture is of my B+ LC and Jars!

August 1 - 12:27am First off may I say that many (save one) of my questions have all been answered by the search function. I recommend to new comers just UTFSE!
It has been about 10 days now since my first jars were inoculated, seems so much longer than that. From the first 3 B+ jars, 1 had to be thrown out. My LC has been scrapped due to the fact that I was putting the cart before the horse, per say. That jar will become my 10th and final jar for this grow. I will likely inoculate with golden teacher, for the simple fact that I see much more substantial growth from those jars, rather than my B+ jars.
I now have 8 jars showing mycelium growth and 1 jar that was inoculated less than 5 days ago (sleep deprivation eludes the exact number of days at the moment) that will, hopefully, in time how growth as well.
My mind now turns to the fruiting chamber, my SGFC has been prepared with 1/4" holes drilled every 2" in all 6 sides, and perlite laid a good 2 inches in depth. My SGFC is rather small so I opted to lay less perlite to allow the cakes room to fruit. Will this decision come back to bite me? I am hoping that the small size of my chamber will result in a higher RH and all this means to me is to allow for more FAE am I wrong in thinking this? Should I opt for a larger chamber now before I start?
I hope that by placing my cakes closer together will allow for the creation of an optimal micro-climate retaining as close to 100% RH as is possible.
August 4th 2 week mark
So it has now been two weeks from colonization. My jars are doing pretty good. I have kept my jars at ~78•F the entire time, I am away from my house for a few days and I am hoping that since a watched pot never boils my babies are taking this time to grow like wildefire in Arizona in the middle of July!! I have included a picture of one of my b+ jars from Monday night! It had been inoculated 7 days at the time... Not bad if I do say so myself!! Tell me what you guys think! Sorry for the bad quality just felt this thread needed to be updated! Hopefully I can start fruiting conditions in a week from Sunday looking forward to it!!!!!
**picture deleted due to size**
Any words of advice and critiques are welcome and appreciated! Thanks fellow Shroomerites!
August 18th
Ok, so it has been a little while since I have updated this. So I started out with 12 jars and 6 of those were given to my friend, 1 of those caught a contaminant and one was used to inoculate a small "zip lock tek" if you will. So the total count is 4 jars and I zip-lock bag filled with 2 jars worth of mycelium covered BRF "cakes". I will post pictures soon just to give you guys some porn . All of the cakes are in their last 10% of mycelium growth. The bottom of all the jars is colonizing and there are just small slivers on the lower sides of a couple of jars that hasn't colonized.
Pertaining to the zip-lock bag, do I give the mycelium a consolidation week or because that I broke a colonized cake up and added substrate they are readily mixed together would that not be needed? As I am sure the majority of the inside is colonized (if not all of it). That seems like a weirdly worded question. Let me try to explain. In the jars inoculation occurs from the 4 surface areas of inoculation out, but since I added mycelium that was readily growing and to the BRF substrate there are many many many more points if "inoculation" and they are all growing throughout the "cake" when it reaches 100% can I birth from the bag or should I wait?
As for my cakes, I have enjoyed just watching the mycelium grow and develop through the glass and cannot wait to get some mushies growing from my amazing unblemished beauties . My first trip on homegrown mushies is gonna be EPIC I can't wait!

Re: **GROW LOG** 1st Attempt (B+, Gold Teacher) MOLD QUESTION [Re: sasquatch]

Hey guys, so after several days I FINALLY HAVE GROWTH!!! 7 of my 9 jars are showing mycelium growth! so thats a 78% success rating of inoculation!
One problem that I have found is that, on B+ jar #3 my fastest growing jar has developed a TINY SPOT OF GREEN MOLD!!! I have since moved the jar away from the others! but the thing is yesterday it was quite more noticeable than today.. Can the mycelium overpower the mold and kill it? I was going to scrap that jar immediantly but I got busy and forgot. Is it ok to leave it or should I get rid of it now???

thanks a bunch guys I hope you can help!!

If it were mine I would toss it. You wouldn't want to compromise the rest of your grow for one jar.

well it has been seperrated into an entirely different room... can the mycelium win in the long run or will this cause problems later in fruiting... Whats the harm in keeping the jar seperate and seeing how it goes?

Damn... and that jar was one that took off and grew the quickest!! I have 2 more that were inoculated 4 days ago and so I'm hoping I come out with at least one more good jar to make up for the one I lost!

Ok guys so I last night I scraped the jar, and whipped it out with alcohol. Then I washed the jar with soap and water, and then rinsed it out very well. I sterilized and inoculated my jar with some more B+ spores I had saves in a syringe.
Hopefully I will be fruiting within the next 3 weeks! When I have some good looking mycelium I will take pictures and post my mycelium porn!!!!

I would personally think that perhaps the is the reason you are getting contams if your sterile tek is good.

I thought that too, but none of my other jars showed signs of contams... If this happens again I will completely review my syringe tek. I made a glove box and was as sterile as possible in every step I could. I'll be keeping a close eye on my jars in the coming weeks

This is an example of something that is of concern to me:
".....3 jars where pasteurized in boiling water for 2hrs and let cool. 2 syringes of B+ spores where prepared in a sterile work environment. The jars where inoculated and placed away....."
Please, please; tell me you didn't use 20+cc of spores for only 3~4 jars?????
Or did I miss something?

OH NO!!! lol I used 1cc or less per jar!!! The reason I used 2 was to even the odds that if one was contaminated I had used another!! No I did not use 20cc on 3 jars lol!!
I did however give my syringes to a buddy of mine to use as well...
So after he used them I did make another syringe last night to inoculate my jar, however even then I only used 1cc to inoculate the jar!
I did do enough research before hand to know to use only 1cc per jar!!! lol

Yes; yes you would... It is a fairly universal stage between colonizing and fruiting.

Thanks horizon, I had noticed that I have an invitro pin in one of my jars.... not to worried about it, I will just let it go as usual and dunk and roll when they are done.
