and a volcano combined with nuclear reactors and other "stuff" stored on site wouldn't be a weapon?

I don't think it would fission or release enough dust to cause a nuclear winter... it'd just kill a bunch of people in other ways

Nuclear summer comes after the nuclear winter. The burning caused by the nuclear explosion releases huge amounts of CO2 and also oxides of nitrogen. The CO2 causes a greenhouse effect and the N oxides destabilize the ozone layer thus making it permeable to UV irradiation. Essentially whatever survived the winter dies in the summer.

This happens every time. Look at the gulf oil spill. People are still getting sick and they still have no clue about all the oil that is "missing". No one is in jail and BP is now even saying that they would like to stop paying for anything regarding clean up and such.

It was only going to end because the media cared.

he probably says its not that bad because the media in japan says it ain't. but maybe it really isn't that bad. from what i understand, there is molten pools of fuel that are technically impossible to move. fuck it it ain't that bad...

They'll work on ways to contain and remove it. The cleanup was estimated to take 9-12 months, so I don't expect there to be 100% progress even after this many months.
My personal view on the issue (especially when it comes to people who treat it like it's the end of mankind), just how much radiation did we blanket our nation with between the 1940's and the late 1980's?

Quote:
The recent CDC Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report indicates that eight cities in the northwest U.S. (Boise ID, Seattle WA, Portland OR, plus the northern California cities of Santa Cruz, Sacramento, San Francisco, San Jose, and Berkeley) reported the following data on deaths among those younger than one year of age:
4 weeks ending March 19, 2011 - 37 deaths (avg. 9.25 per week) 10 weeks ending May 28, 2011 - 125 deaths (avg.12.50 per week)
This amounts to an increase of 35% (the total for the entire U.S. rose about 2.3%), and is statistically significant. Of further significance is that those dates include the four weeks before and the ten weeks after the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant disaster. In 2001 the infant mortality was 6.834 per 1000 live births, increasing to 6.845 in 2007. All years from 2002 to 2007 were higher than the 2001 rate.
