the only ones I played were FFXII which I kind of dropped out of cuz all i really knew was i had to go somewhere and do something but it was pretty cool looking while it lasted and persona 4 i got to the first boss, but its too hard on hard mode to chip away at him so in that regards its just a really classy JRPG

Good games, but the moniker RPG always brings back memories of D&D, The Elder Scrolls, or Deus Ex. it just doesn't feel like an RPG if some Japanese guy decided I'm HAIR MAN (JRPG music) or HUGE SWORD GUY. For it to be an RPG in my eyes, you have to not only make mutually exclusive branching plot decisions, but also be able to design the look, feel, and function of your character to a degree.
I definitely think there's some confusion about the difference between an action / adventure game (linear, no branching character progression- think Kingdom Hearts and Zelda), JRPG's (obviously, Japanese- usually open world with inventory options but little or no character customization) and actual RPGS's.
I still love Kingdom Hearts and basically all the games you mentioned, but they're more adventure/action than actual role-playing.
