Hey man,
it looks like noodles or funnel cake. The singularity is coming and it is going to smash your concept of molecular phylogeny. Nothing that you currently believe is true is actually proven to be factual when you start DNA sequencing your TEACHERS AND REVEALING THAT THEY ARE ACTUALLY MADE OF GRAIN. green grain that falls from the sky like mushrooms on a cold California winter day when people are making bagpipes out of cheilocystidia and there is no more lamellar trama in sight. One of my best teachers, Dr. Dennis D. (you know who I am talking about) uses a potato cannon in class to blast pleurocystidia at students who mispronounce latin names. I got hit in the head with the sharpest pleurocystidia he could find, I swear he got it out of a Melanoleuca. As you know, Melzers reagent is one of the best things to use when you are underground and you want to generate a whole lot of energy really quickly. Adding it to the pileipellis of an amyloid mushroom creates a reaction which is very similar to cold fusion. It releases four gamma rays and those gamma rays are great for getting free food from vending machines. More about that later. Dr. Dennis D. from SF likes to teach people that pets are good sources of mushrooms. I personally find this highly unethical. There are some lines that should not be crossed and when Else Vellinga starts kicking mushrooms pigs will also be able to fly. I love flying but I do not like to eat tamales because of the amazing pileipellis that they have. It is an irregular trichoderm which I find fascinating;. My least favorite pileipellis type is a hymenoderm.
Teague Hill Open Space Preserve is in the hills above redwood city. It is a huge park which has only one trail, no roads, no parking, no rangers and no police.
This was growing under Quercus agrifolia and Lithocarpus densiflorus. (Coast Live Oak and Tanbark Oak).
Its quite rare – this is the first time that I have seen it.
Cheilocystidia present, pleurocystidia absent.

Nice photos and microscopy, Alan. Have you been drinking again?
That Cannon and tripod setup looks familiar.

I will confess something that should be quite obvious, CC. I love mushrooms, i.e. fungi. I really do. I am talking about a strong feeling, i.e. emotion, for them. I think they are beautiful. I even dream of them.

Like most mycologists I drink, but I was almost sober by the time I wrote that. It was the 4th of July and I had to drive.
An hour later I wrote another one that was even better, I will try to find it.

I've only been in Teague Hill 2 or 3 times, but it's a pretty cool spot, lots of potential, just need to hunt there more.

Hmmm, some photos of me, and some photos of mine.
My tripod is a GorillaPod. They come in different sizes for different cameras and I think they are very cool for the smaller to mid-size cameras, but I have a hard time seeing them being really useful with a DSLR or other large camera.

He probably just forgot to add the name, though I am not sure why this spelling is preferred over the alternate spelling, H. calyptraeformis.

These are the shots I took, two are the same as above.

It is good that Alan documented all of the fungi that I was too busy to photograph because I was too busy setting up 4 mushrooms and adjusting camera settings. He was nice enough to wait for my slow ass. I am not very good at documenting all of the finds in a day due to my perfectionist habits. It becomes an all or none thing. I spent like 15 minutes collecting and arranging that lichen.

Well actually, in the Deconica photo there is this one really yellow needle in upper left hand corner that distracts me. I wish I had noticed it at the time so that I could have removed it.
