i have been out of the loop for 7 yrs. .i did old school by storing jars in dark all are colonized for 6 days now and still have been kept in the dark. i was going to go 7 days in the dark after full colonization, right into a dunk into the f.c wich would have been the first introduction of light. it was suggested i pin inside the jar so i am going to introduce indirect light for pinning in jar then dunk w/care then into fc.since its been fully colonized for six days in dark when could i see pins.and how many hours of light do i introduce starting today.and it should just be good indirect light correct or am i having the light be directly on them from today to induce pinning. i have read alot of different things it is confusing

the ORIGINAL pf tek called for waiting for pins before birthing, but there is no reason why you HAVE to. So long as they have been fully colonized for a week. Ambiaent light is good. One study I read concluded that 5 miloseconds of light a day for 5 days innitiated primordia. The moral to the story; it don't take much light

get them out of the dark. myc seems to grow better in indirect light. does'nt matter now, if you waited till they were fully colonized, then another week to consolidate, then go ahead and dunk and roll. or let them pin invitro first, it really doesnt matter in terms of speed.

Usually, pins happen within a colonizing medium because the mycelium's become infected and in the myce's natural defense, it calls to reproduce.
FAE is the number 1 pinning trigger. Once your cakes are into the FC, flood them with as much artificial light in the 6500K spectrum you can allow for with out off-balancing the temperature and RH of the FC on a 12 hour off, 12 hour on photo-period.

actually, a substrate pins once all the food is consumed. if some is already being eaten by something else, then there's less food for the cube myc to eat.
