EXTREMELY long colonization time wth?
    #14587086 - 06/09/11 08:52 PM (2 years, 11 days ago)

well i have a pf jar which i spawned to aged horse poo. during the time it was colonizing i was moving so it was hard to keep at a constant temperature of 85 it was usually at around 72-78 degrees.i ordered the spores from spores101 ive heard mixed reviews about them mostly bad ones saying their underdosed. three months after spawning to horse poo and its STILL not done almost but not yet, im wondering why another bacteria hasnt taken ahold of this substrate considering its been so long am i just lucky? after/if they finish colonizing their going in the terrarium and ill let yall know how it goes but for now wish me luck!

Slow mycelium is not worth anything. You could have bought new syringes, made new jars and have harvested mushrooms before your jar even colonized.

And if you have mycelium that takes 2 months to colonize a jar, why on earth would you spawn it to something and make it colonize MORE material, it already had a hard enough time. You should have just fruited it. At this point, toss it and start over, no use holding out on something that will never happen. If a jar takes more then a month to colonize (really more then 2-3 weeks) its not good genetics. And thats just how it is with spores, you never know what your gonna get. If its slow, I dont use it. Spawn to bulk should be done in 2 weeks, if its not, trash it.

it was a 1/2 pint jar spawned to a tray of horse poo. im currently have a pint of popcorn and a quart of popcorn that that i also inoculated with the same spores syringe and i have to say that considering how "quick" popcorn is at colonizing i have to conclude that these spores were the cause of this slow colonization period because its been 3 weeks and the pint jar of popcorn is id say about 85% done and the quart one is about 30% done. ive only grown popcorn and a couple of brf grows but ive had a quart of popcorn completely colonize in less than 2 weeks! so wth is going on? temps are at a steady 80-85

72F to 78F is the correct temperature, 85 is far too hot.  If you attempted to colonize a bulk substrate at 85F, it's ruined.  Toss it out and follow correct procedure and temperature next time.

As already said, if the pf jar also took two months, it's trash.  A brf tek jar should fully colonize in two to three weeks.  If as I suspect, you tried to colonize the pf tek jar at 85, then you've messed up on both.

im sorry i forgot to specify, when i said 85 i added 10 degrees Because i know the cake itself produces 10 extra degrees estimated so i actually had the jars at 70-75 degrees in other words i kept the jars at room temperature the whole time. so temp couldnt be a problem. besides all i ever grow is 1 quart popcorn and this is the first time in 4 years that i have had a SLOW colonization problem with popcorn, brf i have no experience with so i cant say anything about it

You dont NEED a pc for PRF, you can steam it. If you have a PC, its best to though of course.

During my first attempt my pf jars  took around 6 weeks to colonize and they still produced a decent yield i say ride it out and you may get lucky
