Most influential have been Castenda's Journey to Ix'tlaan, Jed Mckenna's Spiritually incorrect enlightenment, Ernest Becker's Denial of Death, UGK (haven't read their books though) and David Scoma's talks.

I have many spiritual books that I have found to be very informative and very inspiring full of many thoughts and ideas that have given me time to ponder many things. There are the two books however that changed my life forever and that I would definitely recommend. The reason they were so influential on me is due to the fact that they were the two books that truly started my journey into spirituality, which has made me the person I am today.

Lah'Kesh pretty much means "I am you and you are another me" or "I am another yourself." A lot of ancient traditions in South America use this greeting instead of "hello" or "good-bye" to emphasize the oneness in all. I like to incorporate it into my life as much as I can, because like other things it holds meaning to me and really hits home in my belief system.
I have decided to incorporate it here so as to help me remember that every single post has value to the poster posting it. I find that while I may not agree or understand every post I come across the fact of the matter is that the post held some sort of importance to the person posting it so I should not be so ignorant as to discard it with having no value. I post Lah'Kesh at the end to inform myself and others that I took the time to think about the thread and tried to add what I thought was right to add at the time.
Just something personal that I find to be important for myself.

What is Tibetan book of dead about? I have heard about it many times.
Very straightforward books are about Ramana Maharshi imo.
'Be as you are' and 'Talks with sri Ramana Maharshi'
'Be here now' by ram dass is great book too.

well according to my understanding of the death process from a buddhist point of view
one experiences the dissolving of various layers until they are in a state of clear light (to the best of one's spiritual understanding/ability). then one's previous karma surfaces in the form of hallucinations, sometimes very scary. the mind based on its karma and desires then gets drawn to a certain visual and propels itself into a new rebirth.
if one can recognize the stages of death as they occur though, one can see the karmic visions as just the play of ones own mind and reach liberation at that time, which is why the book of the dead is important. it also helps to have done a lot of meditation in the previous life, to be able to stay mindful and recognize it.
that's my possibly faulty understanding of it anyways

Very interesting, I appreciate you sharing this. I seem to have read some things that match up with a lot of what you are saying and found it very interesting. So would you reccomend the Tibetan Book of the dead to read? Thank again for sharing.

i've actually never read the whole thing despite having a copy, just read a few parts
personally, for me, it isn't an important text for my practice right now, and is rather hard to understand as it uses a lot of symbolism that can be lost on you if you haven't studied tibetan buddhism a lot. traditionally the text was read to people after they had died, when the instructions would make more sense to their mindstream. but i've heard some people say they learned a lot from it, so if you feel drawn to it, then give it a go
