 Got Herpes and I told my girlfriend

I dont know what I have but here is what I do know.
My ex of 8 months had cold sores on her lips. There were several occasionas that she gave me a peck on the lips when she had one. Suddenly, 8 months later, today, I wake up with a sore on my lip. I cant see it unless I study it in the mirror but I can feel it. It feels like my skin is tight. Fucking ex....
Anyways...
So I tell my current girl over a text that I have something important to tell her so ill just come out and say it. She immediatly calls me and think im breaking up with her. I tell her what happened and she tells me to relax. She tells me its fine. I ask her if this changes anything between us. She said absolutely not.
Man...

man im sorry about that. thats horrible. but im glad you told your girl, and im glad she took it well though im not surprised by her reaction.
i think people usually react well if you tell them before they have to confront you.

You know like over 80% of the adult population in the US has these?
It's not very rare or uncommon to know someone with cold sores.

I don't think very many people WOULD break up with someone just for a cold sore... Herpes on you genitals, however, is a bigger deal.
Not trying to knock you dude, I'm just saying. From the thread title you made it seem like you have genital herpes and now are just telling your girlfriend.
Cold sores aren't really a big deal dude.

this SHOULD change things between you and her, but neccesarily in a terrible way. She sounds like a great girl, honesty is a backbone of a good relationship. You need to get tested, like now. Why are you still reading this go! Its possible that you just have a cold sore. Its also possible to have herpes that is not the STD type. Its also possible that you now have a life long STD. Remain calm, at this point you cant change anything. Go get tested.
The good news is that even if you have the STD type of herpes, so do many people. I think its like 1/8 have it, so its not a game ender. If you do have it, you definitely need to wear protection, every time, even if your not having an outbreak. I know it sucks, but its for the best. Either that, or find a new GF with the same strain of herpes.
My ex came to me with the news that she had contract Herpes (and now i did). It broke my heart knowing that I didnt have it prior, and we were both tested before we started having unprotected sex so i know she didnt have it then. Ive moved on now, to someone new, but her infidelity will remain with me forever as little red bumps that come and go..

genital herpes and oral herpes are 2 different things. You can get oral herpes on your dick, but after the innitial outbreak, it will only come out on your face. The opposite is also true. Wanna be safe? Start using abreva for chap-stick

you will not spread type 1 herpes (oral herpes) to her if you do not have an out break @ that time. Use Abreva for outbreaks & Herpecin L for chap stick
Type 2 (genital herpes) is very different. As during sex, we tear the skin and cause a slight blood/fluid exchange, which, in turn, infects the other person.

Lol you did make it sound like genital herpes.
Yea lip herpes is different then genital herpes,there is a simplex 1 and 2. Some people are more susceptible to 1 then others tho,this works with everything. My ex used to get cold sores all the time, I didn't care, its not a big deal, my mom gets them often as well but me on the other hand have never had 1 in my life ever, probably cause my birth parent carried so my body became unsucsceptible to it.

Did you know they found out alot of descendants of people who were exposed and survived the bubonic plague for an unknown reason are not susceptible to HIV/AIDS

meh hsv1 ain't that bad. i think i got mine in kindergarten or some shit... i always used to put toys in my mouth. the worst part about them is that they don't feel too great and there is a social stigma assoicated with it

I got 'em too brotha. The worst is the weird looks you get from other people..."you got herpes!? better not get close to me..."  people don't even know about them.
I've smoked weed w/ friends when I had one, never have I given them to any of my friends or ex GFs....

what everyone else said. you do realize that if you were to ask your doctor he/she would tell you that if you have ever been to the supermarket in your life that you have oral herpes. some people never show symptoms of it and others have cold sores irregularly. it's a non-issue.
