Former Norton math teacher and coach Terry Sense, 37 will spend four years in prison, admitting he allowed students to smoke marijuana on multiple occasions at his Medina County house.
Sense appeared before Judge Christopher Collier on Monday charged agreeing to enter guilty pleas on 28 felony couNts of corrupting another with drugs, and 13 misdemeanor counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
The charges stem from incidents at his home that began in June of 2007 and continued until late in 2009.
A former high school tennis and freshman basketball coach, Sense was named coach of the year in 2006.
During sentencing Sense began reading a prepared statement in which he apologized to the community of Norton and to the teachers in that district.
He said not a day goes by when he does not regret the poor decisions he made.
The statement was cut short by Judge Collier who asked Sense to talk about what he had actually done.
Sense told the court that he had initially invited students, including some of his basketball players, to play cards and watch basketball games.
Medina County Prosecutor Dean Holman tells Fox 8 News the students were under 18. "Probably fifteen sixteen and seventeen, kids he had coached in school, kids he taught in school and there are approximately ten kids involved," he said.
Sense told the court that during one visit a student asked him if they could smoke marijuana outside.
Sense said he allowed them to do it.
"You were providing shelter to marijuana users, you thought it was better for them to come to your house and do this marijuana at your house than on the streets, so you were sort of like a protector of the marijuana using children?" asked Judge Collier
"Like I said," Sense answered " it started off as just watching basketball and playing cards and nothing illegal was going on and one day they brought up, hey, can we smoke this out back."
Sense told the court that it eventually got to a point where he could not say no to anybody.
In court on Monday Sense denied ever smoking marijuana with his students, saying that he had a second job driving for which he could be randomly drug tested.
He also denied supplying drugs to the students.
Holman told Fox 8 News, however, that had the case gone to trial a student would have testified that Sense drove him to a dealer's home in Akron to buy more than $300 worth of marijuana, which they took back to Sense's home.
"And at times the defendant would provide marijuana to students and even sold it to them," Holman said following sentencing,
The prosecutor also said in court that Sense would try to hide the cars of the students when they were visiting. Holman said at times Sense would put newspapers over the windows to the garage so no-one would be able to see inside.

There was a teacher at my high school who got fired for sexual misconduct w/ a student. She was 18 so I don't think he went to jail, but he could never teach again. He must have just been like, "Fuck it", cause he smoked weed w/ a couple of my good friends after he got fired. I talked to another girl who he supposedly got involved w/ but she never told on him.
He was like some Frat boy who just landed a teaching job or something, like, "WOOT, fresh young pussy is ALWAYS available."

that poor guy probably thought they were his friends. if i was a teacher i'd SWED, but never with students... that just seems

Damn my former high school school just has ceramics teachers that have sex with the chicks... LAME
I had him as a teacher too, he busted me for smelling like weed after lunch and i got suspended... LAME
