I am not too sure on where to put this but I am curious about how you go about getting tested for STD's. I know that there is the cotton swab test, but according to my girlfriends doctor they cannot test for HPV, herpes, or genital warts through this test. I was told by a nurse when I was in rehab that the only way to be tested for herpes and other viral STD's was through blood testing?
Can anyone help me understand what the fuck is going on? There are a shit ton of STD's and I would preferably want to know if I have a virus over a bacterial infection. I personally would not go through the test myself because I have a girl that would do it, but I just want to know if her doctor is full of shit and there is a way to know exactly what I might have.

Your town probably has a free clinic...if you are in the U.S. that is. Go there and they will do every test you need for free. You are going to get the q-tip treatment and a blood test. If you send your girl she is going to get swabbed and a blood test. Whats your deal with not getting your blood taken? It's not so bad and then you can be 100% sure you and the lil lady are all good to go. The nurse wasn't BSing you...It has to be done that way.
