 What's with the tiny sig limit?

I Noticed there's a New limit to sig sizes, which isn't enforced unless you change your signature from something old to new.
Just curious with the 480x limit on the width. I know it makes sense for people viewing at 640x480, but not for most of us. What about 520x as a limit? :3

So I'm not just imagining things, it really has shrunk.
I suggest a KB size limit as priority over a pixel size sig. I've seen 200x200pixel sigs over 1MB in size because they're gifts. My sig at 520x will be under 40KB. I do agree to keep a limit on size, I just think physical size should be less constrained over filesize.

Hmmm, I didn't think there was a size limit on signatures like you describe. What is the error message you get when you try to use a larger image?

An image used in your signature is wider than allowed. The maximum allowed width is 480 pixels.

Well I'll be damned, so it does. Okay I raised the limit to 640 x 240, maybe that will work better.
