Wreath, one of my favorite songs. It's pretty heavy at first but it gets really melodic and nice later on in the song.
Part 1
Part 2 (a badass solo/ending)
Entire song is 11+ minutes so it had to be put in 2 separate videos.  Typical for this band.

opeth is kind of just metal for metals sake. there is hardly any ambiance. they are so predictable.
trying to explain what opeth sounds like to someone is trying to explain what water tastes like.

dude fuck yes, i love this whole list, except i think Isis would be in post-metal, and youre missing a TON of great black metal. youre also missing the second greatest band of all time (second to Opeth) Between The Buried And Me!!

Quickly scanned all ten pages of suggestions and will be waiting for some important suggestions to make the list as I second these...

I just found this thread. I'm pretty picky/pretentious when it comes to my metal. I like it BLACK and I like it weird.
Some of my favorite metal bands are DEATHSPELL OMEGA, Arcturus, Opeth, Negura Bunget, Ulver, Burzum, Esoteric, and Katatonia.
I used to really dig the death stuff but nowadays it's all black, prog, or doom for me.
