Upcoming PE grow ideas... suggestions?

Hey folks,
Besides my Ecuador outdoor grow this spring and summer, I am planning an indoor PE grow. I am having some trouble picking a "tek" if you will. I am considering a PE monotub (maybe a MSG and maybe automated with a cool mist) grow or a PE tray/block grow in an SGFC.
If I were to do a monotub or MSG setup, I would plan on using a 64 quart tub.
If I were to do a tray/block grow in an SGFC, I would use a 105 quart tub. I would be using 3 14x8x4" trays/blocks. I have never done a mushroom "block" grow in an SGFC. I figure the blocks will help utilize surface area more effectively than a straight monotub.
Part of me wants to play with automated monotubs again. I had great success last time I used a monotub with a cool mist on timers. I was reading an automated monotub grow (I think Arika's or something like that) and he used a 200 quart tub. If I am going to go this route, I will likely use a 105 quart tub. Getting a tub to be automated isn't really that difficult, it just takes a little time to get it all dialed in. Last time I used a cool mist every 3 hours. The cool mist was set up in such a way as to prevent over misting the tub.
Which of these three alternatives would you suggest as the most viable? The plain monotub or MSG? The SGFC with PE mush blocks? Or an automated version of a monotub or MSG?
Thanks

I'd go for the original monotub. Currently doin a Pe6 grow, which I plan to make a monotub for.

I was just going to use coir (75%), verm (20%) and gypsum (5%). I found out last year that using lots of amendments increasing your contaminant rate. I may consider dropping the coir to 65% and adding 10% coffee grounds.
Not quite sure what spawn:substrate ratio I will use. I was thinking of using a 1:2?

Yeah, I love worm casings. I may add a little, but I really like the boiling water pasteurization technique for coir, verm and gypsum.

PE does seem to do very well on spongi-blocks.
M11, you might want to try as many different methods as you can.
Blocks and cakes for the SGFC. Trays for the GH. Tubs.
I got nice PE6 fruits from BRF cakes. I did not get a huge number of fruits, but these are so dense and heavy.
Good luck,
JD

What about putting a cool mist in the vicinity of a normal monotub or MSG? Say about 8-10 feet away? Have the cool mist sorta facing the tub and have it run on a timer?
I am just gone a lot and can't mist/fan all the time. The automated systems give me reassurance.

hey JDog
Oh ! I've got to chime in on this ...
I have also done PE in bulk cased trays in a SGFC and straight bulk no casing layer monotubs ... Fun ahead for you.
My favorite bulk substrate at the moment: half and half Coir & HorseManure with vermiculite and gypsum thrown in, in good measure. If I am low on Hpoo and going with a majority of coir, then I include a good couple handfuls of earth worm castings to build it up. Vermiculite is good ... I even throw in some perlite for fun ... great texture ..
I think this is going to be a fun grow to watch.
automation is good. progress ... technology is good.
I am completely 'passive' energy wise ... natural sunlight, the Tradewinds .... but I still love technology ..

Hey Uncle!
"half and half Coir & HorseManure with vermiculite and gypsum thrown in, in good measure"
This sounds optimal. (maybe castings anyway)
Fun indeed,

I think I am going to go with the plain old mono, maybe an MSG. I will just run a cool mist near the tub on a schedule (maybe every 3 hours).
I might consider using some worm castings, but I will have to change my pasteurization technique from simply adding boiling water to coir/verm/gypsum. I might just pasteurize the worm castings before adding them to the coir/verm/gypsum.

Akira ran his CoolMist 24/7
If I remember correctly, a CoolMist filled with water puts out 70% humidity .... without water they are a pretty good (and quiet) FAE fan.
edit: Akira's CoolMist was plumbed directly into his big tub.

M11, I was going to recommend that you use the hot water pasteurization method anyway. I just have more faith in it, and one must care for one's penis(es). ;0)
Good luck, whichever path you choose.

So I had an idea after a good night's rest...
What if I were to construct a double MSG (monotub shot-gun)? I would obviously have one larger tub (105 quart) and one smaller tub (64 quart) within the larger. I could then run a cool mist and an ultrasonic via hoses, etc. into the larger tub. I would likely have the hoses running towards the top of the larger 105 quart, where they could spill their RH and FAE across the lid of the 64 quart tub inside. I would likely have the cool mist/ultrasonic run at the same time via timers for about 5 minutes every 3 hours. I think I would also line the bottom of the larger 105 quart tub with some moderately hydrated perlite (1") in order to capture excess moisture from the cool mist/ultrasonic. I would place the lamp (6500 K 42 W) on top of the 105 quart tub. I forgot to mention that there will be about 3" of space between the inside of the 105 quart and the outside of the 64 quart.
This design would prevent any direct misting/fanning by the ultrasonic/coolmist of the 64 quart, which would house my PE. Instead of plugging the cool mist/ultrasonic directly into the 64 quart, which would give rise to issues of over saturation, under saturation, timing, etc., I could just pump the ultrasonic/cool mist around the 64 quart MSG. Given that MSGs have 1/4" holes every 2", I think the amount of FAE and RH exchange between the outside of the 105 quart, the outside of the 64 quart and the inside of the 64 quart would be quite sufficient. The 105 quart would serve as a buffer zone, diminishing the possibility of water loss from the 64 quart.
I really like automated systems so I haven't given up contemplating them just yet. This set up would be really easy to make actually. All I would have to do is drill holes in the 105 quart and hook up my misters and lamp.
What do you guys think of this design? Basically the 105 quart serves as a mini green house for the 64 quart.

I think I am going to go with a plain old monotub.
Next question. Should I go with a 64 or 105 quart mono? I will be using a substrate depth of 5".
I will only be making 14 quart jars of PE.
In a 64 quart mono with a 5" total sub/spawn depth, that would equal 23 quarts of substrate. The sub : spawn ratio would be 1 : 1.6. This is a pretty low sub:spawn ratio, which would have the advantage of colonizing faster.
In a 105 quart mono with a 5" spawn/sub depth, it would be 39 quarts of substrate for a spawn : sub ratio of 1 : 2.8. This is closer to your traditional 1:4 ratio.
Do you think the potentially faster colonization time of the 64 quart would be worthwhile? Or should I just move up to the 105 quart? Would the 105 be that much slower than the 64?
