Obviously evolution has instilled most of us with a great fear of death to help us survive to reproduce. In that sense we are bound to be scared of death and it's not a matter of choice. Consciously we can still be unafraid of the concept of our deaths. I am not, however.

As Sagan would say, we are Star Stuff.
Death and Life are intertwined in existence, thinking of them as separate is ludicrous.
--------------------
A human being is a part of the whole, called by us 'Universe', a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest — a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty. - Albert Einstein

I'm not afraid of death, I look forward to it actually. Not in a depressing I hate life kind of way, but I dunno its kind of fascinating. What lives must come to an end, its an unavoidable stage of existence why should people fear it?

there's no reason to be scared of death, the only thing to be scared of is pain and loss which i guess is just simplifying death in a way.
But purhaps simple makes it more understandable, pain, well if you think back to all the pain you've ever had in your life i imagine most of it was pretty much Our minds and bodies they can handle it and take care of it if we can't, really pain isn't much of anything especially with all the pain pills to fix such things.
Next is loss, and here's the great thing about death, when u die you won't know whats been lost, you'll finally be at true peace.
but until then go out and get as many people pregnaunt as possible to make everyone elses life that much more miserable

The energy in a battery is never lost. Its a scientific rule that energy can not disappear it can only convert to another form of energy which is exactly what happens with a battery.
Almost everyone is afraid of death, everyone is afraid of the unknown but death is not the end. If you study NDEs it quickly becomes apparent that death is not the end (the common explanations about brain chemical release etc do not cut it). What we are starting to realise is that the brain is the receiver of conscious energy not the creator.

It's a non sequitur to say that just because energy cannot be destroyed that consciouness continues after the destruction of the pshyical brain.
I like the idea of the brain as a "reciever for consciouness" though. It has the unshakable ring of "truth" to it. With these matters you really have to go with gut instinct because we just don't know.
