Long term effects of magic mushrooms
    #14061810 - 03/03/11 08:05 PM (2 years, 2 months ago)

What are the long term effects of frequent shroom use? I smoke cannabis often and have experienced no negative health effects, but I am planning to get into psychedelics this summer so I have no idea what to expect. Will it cause permanent brain cell damage, schizophrenia or any other psychological problems. Is this a drug that can be abused resulting in irreversible damage for the rest of your life? Sorry if I sound inexperienced here, but I really wanna know what the fuck I am putting into my body before I do anything stupid.

Bad gas is the worst thing I can vouch for.

But honestly, I find that amusing, as long as it's mine and not someone else's

You may experience a sudden and abrupt loss of ego, a melting and blending of the senses. A feeling of being one with the universe and all consciousness within it.

LSD may cause insanity in those who do no use it. If this is your condition, it should be remedied immediately.

some long term use makes the person want to grow drugs and make LSD. Once lsd is taken the person may feel smarter and examine things on a smaller level, get a microscope and truly want to understand the universe and how it works. They may later hallucinate bugs or "cyber-crawlers." AKA flashbacks. The flashbacks may make the person feel good and go on another trip at any sudden time.

You'll have an urge to wear tie-dye shirts, shave less frequently, and pay attention when 2012 prophesies are mentioned.

Possible short/long term psychosis (unable to discern reality from delusion, hallucinations), HPPD, chemical imbalances in the brain, depression, anxiety disorders, being broke all the time, lower grades, anti-social behavior, etc.

Here's my post from another thread that deals with your question.  Join the thread to discuss further: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/14153753/vc/1#14153753

Quote:

I can give you my experience with psychedelics.  When I first started tripping, I believed these drugs gave me access to alternate realities such as the subatomic world, the lives of plants, cosmic consciousness, the experience of infinity, glimpses of life after death, life before death, life beyond life and Buddhist type enlightenment.  I was convinced that these drugs were vital to understanding the universe and my place in it.  I couldn't understand how governments weren't actively studying these drugs, why scientists generally ignored them, and why DMT wasn't a monetary currency in the world market.  I'd spend much of my sober time trying to unravel the mysteries of the experience, studying my notes, listening to my audio-recordings of my trips, reading psychedelic literature, and participating in forums with like-minded thinkers.

Finally I arrived at an epiphany, probably the most powerful idea I'd ever encountered.  The experience is bullshit.  There is nothing substantive there, nothing that can deepen any understanding of anything.  This shit just confuses and obscures and points in random directions.  None of the existential questions that I have can ever be answered, have ever been answered, nor will be answered during my stay on earth.

These drugs are jerking off and masturbation.  Treating them as anything more than that was bad for my mental health.

Of course, your experience and interpretation may differ dramatically from mine and I hope you find peace.

Keep in mind he said in another thread he's been tripping weekly for 2 and a half years.. I could do anything at this point, but if it happened every week for 2 years, I'd think it was bullshit too. Shit man that's practically a chore

Psilocybin is a powerful drug and it could very well do some sort of long term damage to the brain BUT the immense tolerance that builds from doing it often plus the lack of desire to trip again right after an amazing trip makes any possible bad effects not known to us at all. Some people get "weird" from tripping who have done it in ridiculous excess (weekly or more than weekly for a long time) but seriously, it's mind bogglingly safe. There are side effects lasting up to a week and I guess you could consider a new positive outlook on life and not letting little things get to you a long term effect. I have about 35 trips under my belt not including my lsd or 4-HO-DiPT trips and I've noticed absolutely nothing (trips were spread out pretty much for the length of time I've had this account). No HPPD, nothing. I've done MDMA a good dozen times spread out over 2 years and nothing from that either. I notice a lot of negative side effects from my daily cannabis use but I don't think they'd be long term if I quit. The excessive non toxicity of psilocybin/psilocin is something noone could have predicted and makes you wonder why the mushrooms make it in the first place. Sorry if this is messy, had some dexedrine which I can assure you does have long term side effects.
