Man found unconscious with 0.559 blood-alcohol level February 15, 2011 - StarTribune.com
A man found unconscious on the south side of Madison, Wis., had a blood-alcohol level of 0.559 percent, police said Monday.
A 76-year old resident told police that two men he had never seen before came to his home Friday evening and rang the bell. One of them was standing, while the other was on the ground.
The resident yelled twice for them to go away and threatened to call police. The man who was standing left, leaving his prone companion behind, said police spokesman Joel DeSpain.
Police checked on the man who was abandoned and found him to be unconscious on the resident's stoop. Emergency medical personnel tried and failed to revive him, including by using smelling salts, DeSpain said. He was also given Narcan, a drug used to treat heroin overdose victims.
The man was taken to a hospital, where his blood-alcohol content was determined to be nearly seven times the legal limit for driving, the police spokesman said.
"There was no crime involved," DeSpain said. "The guy wasn't driving, thank God."
The man had no identification on him, and he left the hospital against doctors' advice and even though a nurse warned him that he may have brain damage from being so intoxicated, DeSpain said.
The man was described as about 6 feet tall and 150 pounds. His identity and approximate age remain a mystery to authorities. The resident told police that the man who took off appeared to be in his 40s.
As an illustration, a 150-pound man would have to drink 22 shots of 80-proof whiskey in two hours to get that drunk, according to an online blood-alcohol calculator maintained by the University of Notre Dame's Office of Alcohol and Drug Education.
Drunkenness to such a degree can be deadly, but people have survived even greater levels of intoxication. In 2007, for example, an Oregon woman was found unconscious in her car and with a blood-alcohol content of 0.72 percent.

And hopefully one day genetically enhanced humans will be able to achieve a blood alcohol level of 1 %. The future will be awesome.

Passing out drunk....classic. My friend this weekend drank 25 beers this weekend in three hours...he came back to the room covered in his own shit from head to toe mixed with vomit. I'm not sure how he is still alive but he woke up fine.

.559 is already expressed as a percentage right? Did this gentleman have more alcohol in his blood than blood?
.559 = 55.9%?
Or am I misunderstanding and it's only 5.59%? Or am I really misunderstanding and it was .559%?

I am just so releaved he wasn't using those SAFER, I mean POTENTIALLY dangerous herbs instead of alcohol. LOL I drank equal to 8.33 shots of liquor once and felt like I was dying (7 of 5.9% beers). Throwing up every 10-20 minutes, couldn't move. Alcohol in large amounts sucks. Now I only take a few drops or buy the non-alcoholic stuff, which is a lie for a label, because it has 0.4% alcohol, so i still don't drink as much and i still get hangovers from it. I used to be able to drink more, but every since I OD'd a few times on alcohol, my tolerance is to the point i can smell alcohol and feel slightly buzzed, it sucks, cause I would like to enjoy alcohol like I used to.

I remember from somewhere that .4 is enough to potentially cause brain damage, any more than that is poisoning the shit out of your body.
Getting that drunk doesn't even sound fun. I can drink a lot when I want to, I'll usually have 4-5 beers a night but I've drank much more on some occasions but it's not even that fun. I end up slurring so much no one can understand what I'm staying, stumble around looking like an ass and puke my guts out.

So Wisconsin- Home of ED Gein and binge drinking, put that shit on the welcome to Wisconsin sign. But in all seriousness Wisconsin kicks ass, i visit every summer.

Theres about seventeen shots in a fifth. So 150-pound man would have to drink a fifth and 5 additional shots of 80 proof whiskey in 2 hours to blow a 0.559 Im 220-lbs and that amount of alcohol would leave me really drunk but still cool. Wonder what my b.a. would be. I didnt realize how fucked up 0.559 bac is untill looking at this chart. I mean i knew he was wasted but wow this guy should be dead.
Quote:
0.010–0.029 Average individual appears normal Subtle effects that can be detected with special tests
0.030–0.059 Mild euphoria Sense of well-being Relaxation Joyousness Talkativeness Decreased inhibition Concentration
0.06–0.09 Blunted feelings Disinhibition Extroversion Reasoning Depth perception Peripheral vision Glare recovery
0.10–0.19 Over-expression Emotional swings Angriness or sadness Boisterousness Super human feeling Decreased libido Reflexes Reaction time Gross motor control Staggering Slurred speech
0.20–0.29 Stupor Loss of understanding Impaired sensations Severe motor impairment Loss of consciousness Memory
0.30–0.39 Severe CNS depression Unconsciousness Death is possible Bladder function Breathing Heart rate
≥0.40 General lack of behavior Unconsciousness Death Breathing Heart rate
I think im gonna get a breathalyser. It'd be fun to bring it out at a party. Neat idea, $7 for a Breathalyzer Keychain. Something tells me it probably is not the most reliable, il go for something more like this. It has good reviews.
