I'd recommend anything live. My favorite studio albums of theirs are Junta and Rift. You should check those out.
My favs from Junta:
You Enjoy Myself
Golgi Apparatus
Divided Sky
Fluffhead
I like pretty much every song off of Rift. You might also want to check out Phish's double live cd called "A Live One."

i just got a live phish 09 8.26.89 townshend, vermont 3cd set
i'm not sure if i heard them all yet but heres some really cool tracks
fly famous mocking bird
harry hood
split open and melt
divided sky
actually thats most the 1st cd, the other 2 i haven't played as much since i love the divided sky on the 1st cd
ah the squirming coil is really cool too

the whole "billy breathes" album's pretty good, but only if you're stoned or tripping... If i were you, i wouldn't go buy the farmhouse album, because almost the other songs suck... Billy breathes's good, though... "free" is a good song by them

I Don't listen to Phish albums and alot of their fans only go to shows or trade live bootlegs. I would recommend going to a site like http://www.momadance.com http://www.nugs.net http://www.etree.org and finding some good free live music.
Or you can go here to 24 hour streaming live Phish http://xpager.ndis.umn.edu/phish.html
And never listen to any idiot that says Phish only sounds good if "you're fucked up".

Farmhouse is a cheese ball song itself. First Tube is a great live song and the Inlaw Josie Wails is probably one of the most technical songs Trey has written in years with some interesting classical pieces in it. Sand and Gotta Jibboo are also some great live tunes(just over played) no one listens to Phish for their studio work anyway, I'm guessing you've never been to a show, Phish isn't a sit around your house and listen to band they are a Psychedelic dance party band that you need to see live to get a grasp of what they are about. And if you need to be fucked up to let the music hit you I don't think thats any short coming of the band.

It probably is a lot different with the live shows... phish seems like they are probably an awsome concert band, but still... .....adom, can you honestly say that you would listen to phish just as much if you'd never once lisatened to them while stoned/tripping... Because usually when i find myself listening to phish cds, i think about when i was stoned and listening to the same song and can fel the vibe easier...

i discovered and fell in love with phish five years ago.. during a stint of enforced sobriety, no less. Sure, i listen to them frequently stoned or tripping since, but i fell in love with them live. music should touch you whether or not you are inebriated.

Thats how I started listening to them, sitting around smoking bongs with friends, but feeling that electric vibe of the audience band connection at a show is what keeps me listening to them. I know alot of people who go to shows sober and haven't used drugs in years and Phish is still one of their favorite bands.
