Yup I remember that thread. I guess VERY simply, light is "one of" the pinning triggers, I try to, in my situation control where my shrooms grow for even canopy and ease of drying/storage. I grow A LOT of edibles, sell them to a few resturaunts, and at farmers market, so I try to keep things visually pleasing. I agree, to each his own. I do totally want to try giant cakes on wire shelves in a GH. I bet I could get badass lions mane thataway.... BC

If I elevate my trays in the shotgun terrarium using some sort of metal rack, would mushrooms grow from the sides and the bottom? Would that yield a greater harvest?

if done correctly then yes you can get a 360° pinset
greater harvest...I would think that since a substrate has a set max output and that most of your yield success will come from genetics (Assuming you have your environmental parameters correct)
That you would see a greater overall harvest weight first and second flush. With your second flush decreasing a bit from the first
