 A visit to Thailand

Hey
Will be travelling to Thailand in a few weeks, for a few weeks, and was wondering if any of you chaps or ladies can share some advice on the place. What are the best islands to visit? I will be staying in Bangkok for a few days, then thinking about going to places like Ko Samet. I want to avoid the overly touristy places like Phuket or Koh Samui to find some beautiful places that are not crowded by westerners. I will be backpacking, so getting places is not a problem.
And any actual places to stay (bungalows etc etc) that you could recommend to me would be much appreciated.
I know the drug laws are very strict in Thailand, but I have heard of many people being able to buy pot and mushrooms with ease over there, how does one go about doing this? Is there much of a risk of getting caught?
Any travel stories (i know a few of you make frequent trips out there) would be great too, things to look out for...

If you get into drugs over there be careful as hell. It's common in Thailand to sell drugs to a tourist and then turn them in for a reward. that It happened to my uncle when he was in the navy.

Go to Kho Phi Phi, Kho Tao...they are the best Islands I had visited when I was there last year...and Make sure you check out the full moon Party! PM me if you want any info about Thailand...PS..get out of Bangkok as soon as you can, that place will suck the life out of you.

dont drink the h2o and you may want to steer clear of the street food...unless you have a strong stomach...get all your shots up to date...dont be a fool and buy drugs there...the jails arnt as prudy as they are here...the norther part of thai land rules...its almost like a dream.
