It seems to me that my dad's been really down in the gutter latley. He has his mean streaks, but generally is a really nice guy. (i'll spare you the boring long paragraph about why he's a nice guy).
So anyways, I was wondering what would be a good way to cheer him up ? I have no idea what I would buy him, but I was thinking of just asking if he wanted to go see a movie or something.

Sounds like a familiar situation.
Is there anything that your father tried to get you interested in, but you never could be bothered? In my case it was fishing.
I saw my Dad was getting generally fed-up so I took up fishing and became his fishing partner! Cheered him up no end!

All very good advice, I know that when things get heavy and i get down on the world, just the fact that my kids notice my mood and try to engage in some conversation or ask if i want to watch a movie with them really picks me up. My girls are 13 and 14 years old and my world revolves around them. If your dad is anything like me or most parents just a little attention or a bit of an invitation into your world will go a long way.
It's great to hear that your concerned about your dad!
