Self-sealing, EASY LC lid TEK. 1

After some troubles aspirating some thick LC's recently I have made a nice batch of new lids with cannulas/catheters. For me these are free to make, you can order all parts needed cheaply online.
We start with our cannula/catheter.

These badboys attach directly to the end of your syringe (I'm using 20ml as I got a load free), they have a self-sealing bung one end and an open tube the other.
Our assembled syringe+cannula:

Our self-sealing end:

Our open tube end:

They are fitted into lids in the time-honoured silicone+drill fashion.
Our assembled lid:

And finally,
Our fully awesome LC jars:

I don't know if there's similar things out there but these are easy to say the least. They will have tyvek filters added to the other holes when the silicone is dried completely. Can't wait to try them out, results to follow in a week or three.
UPDATE:
Here, as promised is a pic of a 'something something something fully operational' partially colonised LC jar.

Not the best pic but I have horrible flu and no patience for photography today.

How is it not easy? There is only one part and a syringe.. Plus the parts are medical quality. It's the easiest way I've seen or found. Suggestions or better/easier alternatives are always welcome!

+ + = This one was 9 days old when I took the pic.

I learned how to clone using these lids though. You can make Lc clones easily w/ them. It wasn't until later that I upgraded to filter discs.
To make them you just snip off the tip of 2 3ml syringes, 10 work too, and glue them into the lid. Then you just stuff it with poly-fill. You have to use metal lids unless you rub the plastic ones with sand paper first. Otherwize the RTV won't adhere.
<-
You can't see it but there is an RTV injection port on the other side right by the little arrow.
The 2 holes add a lot more gas exchange.
I always had problems with 1 hole set ups.
I use 4 holes on my filter disc lids and whole quarts colonize in under 14 days.
I keep them around 78 degrees during colonization.

 Pint LC Jars w/Lids
The silicone I used to glue the turkey injector needle inside the brass tube didn't hold. I switched to gorilla glue ftw.
Waiting on lid gaskets from TMS.
Not jacking your thread. Just sharing an update.

I use 2 holes, one is plugged with silicone glue other has double layer of micropore tape. I use honey LC (4%-10% depending on how much honey comes out) and so far my jars colonize within 8 days and havn't seen any contams yet....
I like you're setup though much more as it looks alot more sterile. vibes to ya man! let us know how it works, and I forget, did you say what type of LC your using?

Haven't PC's one yet but I know the cannulas are used in autoclaves so that's no concern. Do you foresee a problem?
For my LC's I use LME+Acacia honey and sometimes a bit of gypsum. (Acacia honey is VERY pale so you can see through it well).
The parts are no harder to get than posting on this thread... I know y'all have computers!!! Plus I'm certain there are other people in this community that have access to lab equipment or know someone who does, ya gotta network! Go, make friends with a scientist today, do yourself a favour!

"keep it simple stupid" ....
What I mean by that is its not necessary to order supplies to make LC's with when we already have them on hand. We put that energy into research instead.

You know that silicone that you gobbed all around the catheter is self sealing too, right? You could just leave out the catheter completely and seal the hole it is in with silicone and call it a day. Who the hell has a catheter laying around or cares to order some for no reason at all?

No, those are sterilized with ethylene oxide or radiation, not heat. Not PCable.
Anybody interested in LC lids should take a look at EZ-Port lids: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/10364498

Silicone catheters are autoclavable.. You're fine.
You have access to this stuff and built something out of it..
So the idea can lead people to create something similar with stuff they do have access to..
I'm interested to see how it works.

I've thought about doing this cuz i have access to medical supplies (legally) but I wondered if after sucking up some myc that the myc left in the tube would grow and block the cath?? I dunno tho, clean work man looks good!

My lids are silicone IP, and silicone around a peice of filter disk for GE. I use a 16g needle on that and call it a day.
