What if the government decided to completely stop offering handouts tomorrow?

Do you think such a decision would result in chaos, or do you think nothing major would result? Explain your position.

How do you think it would affect the US?

the vast bulk of govt "handouts" are corporate welfare.. which i doubt very many ppl would miss...in fact getting rid of the corporate welfare and its beneficiaries would make traditional welfare less necessary too..but not unneccessary...

Can you please elaborate? Why do you think such a decision would cause Mexico to be fucked, and the US to be markedly less fucked?

What do you mean by "corporate welfare"?

By corporate welfare she means "profits not handed over to the glorious proletariat".
And no, I''m not going to elaborate on yet another nonsensical hypothetical that has zero chance of coming to pass.
Next up: Poid argues that nothing has a zero probability.

What exactly is so nonsensical about this hypothetical situation? You always bitch about how shitty welfare recipients are, I'm just wondering if you (and other people) would be fine with completely eliminating welfare.

Then you don't read my posts. Nor is that what you asked for. As far as what I feel about how shitty welfare recipients are all I want is for them;
A. Not to waste my fucking money and B. A little reach around now and then would be nice instead of constantly trying to jam it in harder.

What you consider to be a waste of money may not be considered as such by welfare recipients.

in a nice fairly tale world welfare beneficiaries would spend their money on rent, power and phone and food, and maybe some new pants and a shirt so they can look smart for job interviews. As a beneficiary myself earlier this year, and its also now as a taxpayer something i realise is good for those that need it and will actively want to get off it. Seriously being on welfare sucks, if you're serious about getting off it it will kill your social life, but i get offended by people i meet in bars who are on it and obviously are doing nothing to get off it.
Sadly there are these things called "long-term" beneficiaries who have no intention on getting a job and it would be good to weed them out from the welfare system over time, i.e drug testing.. etc... fairly invasive measures i know, but necessary to find out who is wasting welfare money

There would be protest if welfare was cut completely from many people, including those who have had to use in the past after being made redundant. I wouldn't call it chaos though...

> but i get offended by people i meet in bars who are on it and obviously are doing nothing to get off it.
One of my largest gripes with welfare (in the US) is that the system is designed to keep people on welfare. I don't know if this was done intentionally (conspiracy time) or not, but we are stuck with it until changes are made. People on welfare are rewarded for decisions that make it more difficult to get away from welfare and are punished for decisions that help get away from welfare. Welfare recipients are rewarded for having large families that they cannot support, but are punished for working.
