Becoming a leaflet distributor / starting service based companies

Becoming a leaflet distributor I saw this as a job and rang them up but the pay was poor.
I had a better idea, instead of working for them - compete against them and setup my own company.
I would just work locally distributing leaflets for all the local restaraunts and shops that require it.
I figure the best way to start is to offer a faster and cheaper service than my competitors. I'm doing the research on their prices at the moment, hopefully they are expensive so I can easily undercut them.
I wouldn't normally share a business idea because I like to be secretive but in a service like this its easy for anyone to start anywhere really.
Cleaning companies are another good example, you can start the company as basically a self-employed cleaner but if you can build clients then you can hire other people to work with you. Thats the beauty of service based business.
Any input? tips for the company?

Work on your selling points.
I mean, everytime I get a leaflet, it goes straight to the garbage (unless it has a coupon on it).
If I were interested in such a service I would be asking questions about why I should choose you, how you would "measure" success etc. But then again, I know nothing about the area.

In my area theres many restaurants and shops that need leaflets delivering regularly.
Theres one other distribution company already but looks like they are gonna have to share
We had a few good ideas like you sat nav to prove the delivery people have done the job properly. The existing company works on faith alone - customers have to trust that they don't just throw the leaflets away.
Other thing you can do is print you own small local services directory. Just a A5 booklet with all the important and useful local numbers. You can charge business a small fee to be listed on the booklet and you can easily distribute it on the existing leaflet round.

cleaning company?
well, i can't say some people haven't profited from that, i guess it's possible. i'd put leaflets like that in rich neighborhoods. you are better off mailing these things, or advertising.
i guess you are asking the wrong person. oh well....
good luck

In the UK at least theres all ready thousands of companies running service based businesses like this.
Leaflet distribution is common for shops, take aways etc. Theres definitely money in it and I believe in my area room for 1 more.
