don't buy a damn kit. you can make everything yourself for a lot less money, and in the end you will actually understand why it works the way it does.
Buying a kit is like the dumbest and most ignorant thing you can do. look at some videos of the PF-Tek on mushroomvideos.com . That's all you ever need in the beginning.

Hello Fellow Shroomerites. Give the guy a break. There are plenty of reputable sites that sell good grow kits. I think if you are interested in growing cubensis a grow kit is sometimes a good place to start. When the mushrooms grow you can take the spores and plan for future grows. You can also take clones from the mushrooms on agar for further propagation. The grow kits are almost always made using clones and isolates so you are pretty much guaranteed good genetics for your future grows. Not to mention that you will get mushrooms much faster than if you start from spores. The Shroomery has plenty of information on how to produce mushrooms from spores and clones and you can get both from your kit. I would recommend the Dutch site www.azarius.com which also happens to be a sponsor of this website.

If you bought a kit that contained a culture or a clone, it would be illegal to ship it, let alone possess. I dont think companies would be doing that. I could be wrong, but if that is what they are doing thats very ignorant.
Shipping or possessing living psilocybin containing mushrooms or their cultures are illegal.
Spores are the only legal part of them to have since they dont contain psilocybin.

Yes it is illegal. Some sites will not ship to certain countries others dont really care. In the Netherlands the mycelium of psilocybin mushrooms is legal however the fruitbodies are not. Growkits from Holland contain live mycelium with great genetics. Check out this product.

Give the guy a break. At least he's asking. Years ago, I just bought one.
You can get a lot more bang for your buck doing a little research and buying spores from a reputable vendor. I recommend Sporeworks.

I disagree wholeheartedly. If you are looking for quick easy mushrooms, price and technique be damned, then in that case a grow kit would be a good place to start.
I mean you talk a good game but if he can't make his own PF jars what makes you think he's pouring his own agar or even getting petri dishes? Why isolate if you're just gonna buy kits theres no point.
A good place to start is here. Read. Make understanding the life cycle and growth parameters your goal, not obtaining mushrooms. If you get that right you'll have plenty.

I find the best way to keep my mummy from finding out is to keep myself in a position where she's not in my business. Like, out of her house.
Growing without a home owners permission, at least here in the USA, can potentially have horrendous consequences for all parties involved, and is generally frowned upon.
I suppose that's just a rant. I just like things done the old fashion way I guess. Hard work. Dedication. Preperation, planning, and flawless execution.
All of these great feelings get stripped from you by ordering kits.
When and if you have a problem with your kit, you CAN'T tell us what it is, because you don't really KNOW for sure. Because you didn't make it, some monkey in a lab did. And if he makes a mistake, what is one return to a company he doesn't own? Nothing to him. Weeks for you. Think about it.
