what kind should i get for growing sclerotia? where can i find it? also.... i've heard of folks putting rice in the mix when growing stones because it holds water better than rye grass seed. (i know the philosopher's bags i ordered have rice in them). is adding rice a good idea? brown or white? and how much?

My little friend uses annual rye grass seed because it's cheaper. He told me Lowes has it.He does put rice in the seed.I think he said 3/4 cup seed-1/4 cup brown rice-2/3 cups water.

Search for animal feeding grade seeds, when it's sold as bird food will cost 100 times less than seed that is supposed to germinate. You'll probably find something with a google search, look for specialized pet stores, I once spent 12 euro for 1kg grass seed in a garden center, later I've found it for 58 cent per Kg on a pet food store online.... It works exactly the same way

Aww i just did a quart of rye grass alone, its not too wet but i hope it produces sclerotia good. I don't have any rice, could i just add some vermiculite to help retain water?

same here. I was out looking for some grassseed today and the cheapest "lawn seed" was ?15 (~$25) for ~3kg, but then I managed to find it a lot cheeper as bird food, from a feed store. It pays to look around....
