Unusual find in Queensland Australia

Habitat:
Found on lawn in Sub tropical Queensland Australia

Gills:
tan at the moment, waiting for spore print

Stem:
5 cm wide 1.5 cap width reddish brown cap with lighter ring around,

Cap:
conical/spherical

Spore print color:
Waiting for print to finish

Bruising:
blue upon touch

Other information:
Smells like a copelandia. Was not found near any cow paddocks.

Very interesting find! It does look like a Psilocybe sp., it would be great to know what it is.

Yes, while I have seen many P Cubensis and Copelandia C in the cow paddocks, I was taken by surprise to see this in a front lawn in town.

Hmmm, interesting. Save that as a dried specimen for microscopic identification.

I hope someone will come with an answer, it does somewhat resemble a young Psilocybe subaeruginosa, but it's neither the season or the habitat for it, and I'm not very familiar with other Australian psilocybes.

Definitely looks like a sub. I think there was a cyan find in Oregon this spring, so I guess it could happen. :shrug:

Weird. Could it be a species that hasn't been described?

It does resemble Psilocybe subaeruginosa though...

I'd call that a sub. Weird as it may seem, but I think it's the most likely candidate.

Yes, it does look like a sub (especially the cap). I have never seen one around before and I always have my eyes on the ground. I have based this on pics of subs. The stem was quite white though, don't subs have a reddish brown stem? It bruised blue very easily after picked.

I love the blue bruising effect..even the newbest of newbs like me could ID a psilocybe from the bluing...

I have no idea tho as to what this is since i only could identify a ps.cyan or lib :shrug:

Need to check that lawn and see if there was any wood in the soil where the specimen was found.

i say sub too.
we even saw a spring pelliculosas thread this year in the PNW which was pretty friggin wierd IMO! so out of season fruitings can occur.

No Wood at all, it is not far from the garden that has cane mulch on top def not wood chips.
