PF-tek Potency
    #13101609 - 08/25/10 05:06 PM (1 year, 8 months ago)

A friend of mine was curious to see if there was any way of increasing the potency of his crop from PF cake's besides the Tryptamine HCL method. He has mastered the PF-tek but is uncertain if he can maintain a sterile enough environment for grain/case method. He is also unsatisfied with potency of his fruits. Any suggestions for him?

Yeah, get a decent strain or learn cloning and isolation techniques. With multispore inoculation, each shroom can vary greatly in potency (depending on the substrain) even in each flush. BRF isn't the source of the problem.

Although I have not tried this particular strain, it would seem that the general consensus around here is that penis envy is generally more potent than most other cubes. I think that there was even a survey on this question.

I've hear that penis envy is too large for the pf tek, makes the cakes tip over and stuff, is that true?

The fact that they were grown out Psilocybe Fanaticus style has absolutely nothing to do with potency...Period.

It's genetics....if you want consistent crops of potent mushrooms then you need to get into agar work and try and isolate some strains/monocultures and test each isolate out with a full test grow to find which isolated strain (if any at all) meet your requirements...

http://archives.mycotopia.net/discus/messages/5/41777.html?1067230771

When you work with multi-spore it a total crapshoot and you never know what mother nature is going to give you, each cake it self is a different sub-strain or made up of various sub-strains.When you're ordering a spore syringe or a spore print from a vendor,or you get one from a kind shroomery member in the marketplace, don;t think of it as a strain, think fot it as a race or variety, like; Psilocybe Cubensis,Golden Teacher var. or race.

Psilocybe Cubensis is the species,Golden Teacher is the race or variety.

A true strain is when two compatible individual spores mycelium meet and mate to become dikaryotic mycelium....

You can read more about it in the beginning of the Strain/Race/Variety thread...

From what I've seen, cubes that grow fast and huge are weak. Cubes, like Penis Envy, that take forever to grow and fruit fairly small (but stout) tend to be potent.

Not like this is a rule of thumb or anything, but somehow to me it makes sense. Chemistry takes time.

I've grow plenty of SA,Amazon, etc  that put out massive fruits that were damn potent....matter of fact the Amazon variety I grew for a while was the most potent cubes I had ever had the pleasure (and mispleasure) of eating.

You can have cubes that grow fast and are potent, and cubes that grow slow that not as potent and vice versa.Potency pretty much is different from shroom to shroom so they say anyways and I believe this. Many times I have given friends the same dose or larger then mine and they hardly felt anything at all...results varied amongst the friends that ate them.

That's why I included my disclaimer. I'm no expert on the matter, just positing a theory and giving my opinion.

I noticed the disclamier...just posting my experience with some varieties/races that are known for producing large fruits that colonize/grow fast,at least IME.

PE can do just fine on BRF cakes.
And as you can see these were highly neglected/abused and still did great

Why do you care about potency when your friend is growing them? Eat more.

I tend to agree, that a cube is a cube, except for Penis Envy..

Better than usual, but on par w/ other PE that I've experienced.
2oz first flush also.

Just switch up strains.
Creepers grown on rice were more than enough potent for me.
