Police raids shut down eight drug labs
Police have shut down eight illegal drug labs in Queensland in 10 days.
Six of them were targeted in Ipswich.
Police raided labs at homes in Fernvale, Harrisville, Yamanto, Brassall Ripley and Wivenhoe Pocket.
Detective Senior Sergeant Michael Trezise said investigations began after a house fire in Brookwater in July that started from a lab explosion during the drug manufacturing process.
"These laboratories pose a real danger to the community as the chemicals that are used are highly toxic," he said.
Five people were charged over the production of dangerous drugs, and a 34-year-old man was questioned by police.
On Thursday, two Brisbane men aged 31 and 47 were arrested after raids on a property in Queen Street in the CBD and storage sheds in the inner-city suburb of Albion.
Police said they found amphetamines, chemicals and glassware used in the production of amphetamines at the Albion sheds, while they also said they found amphetamines, money, several mobile phones and drug paraphernalia at the other address.
A drug lab at Airlie Beach in north Queensland was also shut down on Thursday, resulting in charges being laid against a 28-year-old man from Townsville and 23-year-old woman from Idalia.
