is blue lotus worth it? tincture?
    #13072647 - 08/19/10 08:45 AM (13 years, 7 months ago)

I have been reading up on blue lotus. Light dose effects are sedation and high dose effect are cartoon visuals and bright auras??

The tincture has caught my intrest, but there is also lotus wine and smokable herbs (I'm trying to cut back on smoking anything).  What's best for someone looking for strong effects other than sedation?

Is Blue Lotus worth the money?

I've read very few positive reports on this supposed entheogen. However, I'm willing to give it a try. As we speak I have around 4 grams of dried blue lotus flowers (not tincture) soaking in red wine, it has been in there for 2 days already. I will leave it for a week before consuming it. I have read that soaking it in wine is THE way to use it, but I'm not sure if 4 grams is enough to feel effects. Of the reports that did mention a noticeable effect, I've read conflicting accounts of the experience - some say it produces a stimulant like effects, others sedative. I will report back in around a week to let you know what happened.

Cool, thanks.  I will also post my experience, when experience is had.  Trying to do my part in spreading information on some of these lesser understood psychoactives.

if you're expecting visuals you're going to be really let down. I've never even heard that but I guess too much water can make you see shit too.

I've never gotten much from it personally but I like to add it to smoke blends and herb sometimes.

there are some great lotus products out there...and a lot of shitty ones.

they are def mos bang for the buck when soaked in wine

Quote:

just wondering if any of you have tried lotus wine?

I hear it takes atleast 20 grams of or 25 for an extra oomph..

heres a text i find after Googling lotus wine. Apparently it goes very well with kratom and I bet with some kava out in the last day or so of soaking could bring a interesting wine perhaps?

Blue Lotus Wine

There's many different ways you can prepare your "blue lotus wine recipe," but remember that everyone is affected differently. Either you smoke the blue lotus or drink the blue lotus, remember to always have company while you drink the Blue Lotus Wine so your always putting safety first.
Now many people ask, "should I use a red or a white when i prepare my blue lotus recipe?". In our eyes it doesn't make too much of a difference. Obviously the Egyptians hundreds of years ago mixed their blue lotus with red wine, but the white wine in today's recipe will give you the same desired effect. You may see some discoloration in the white wine after marinating. So lets get down to the recipe...

Ingredients:
1 bottle of red or white wine
1 wine cork
10-20 grams of Blue Lotus (petals and bulbs)
1 tablespoon of honey (optional)

First you open up your bottle of red or white wine and drink a small amount to make room for the blue lotus.
Second you take your 10-20 grams of blue lotus and stuffed it inside the bottle of wine. Make sure to include both the petals and the bulbs so you marinate all the active ingredients.
Third you cork the bottle nice and tight with all the blue lotus inside, and then place it into the refrigerator. Even if its red wine, still stick it in the fridge.
Fourth, you let your blue lotus wine sit for at least a few hours to a week in the fridge. The Egyptians would generally give the bottle 3 weeks, so the longer the better..
Fifth: After keeping in the fridge for your period of time, you're ready to drink your blue lotus wine. If it's a white wine you can leave it in the fridge and if a red you may want to sit it outside for a few hours to catch up with the air temperature.
Now this one bottle of blue lotus wine can be used for up to 2 people depending on how potent the effects you want. Generally, the bottle of blue lotus can be used by 1 person at a weight of 170 lbs. There is an option to use honey, depending if you like the taste or not. It can sometimes be a tad bit bitter, and if so, add a bit of honey to your wine to sweeten it up. This won't change the effects, only the taste.

As far as experiences with this blue lotus recipe, we think you will be quite pleased. It's simple and it will give you the euphoric/happy/relaxed feeling you've been searching for. It's also fun to experience what the egyptians experienced centuries ago if you're into history at all. We are yet to find a company that bottles Blue Lotus wine, but we continue our search for this product. I guess its so easy and fun to make blue lotus wine at home, that there probably isn't a market for such a luxury.

Blue Lotus Effects

The main effects of Blue lotus are a pleasant feeling of warmth around the head, very comfortable dreamy feeling and maybe slightly stimulant effect.
Because of the mythological, cosmological, symbolic, and artistic significance of the blue lotus, many feel that the ancient Egyptians used the blue lotus for its inebriating effects. Because of its mythological and cosmological symbolism, the blue lotus flower was seen as an elite flower that produced shamanic effects.
The blue lotus flower contains a alkaloid called nuciferine, soluble in alcohol but not known to be psychoactive. Nuciferin is anti-spasmodic and likely contains aporphine. You'd need a good 5g, which is about 3-5 flowers, in order for the flowers to be active. You can either ingest the blue lotus, smoke the blue lotus, make a tea from the blue lotus, or make wine blue lotus. It has been documented that he blue lotus appears to be a hypnotic sedative. Some people will compare the effects of being MDMA or Ecstasy, but most will say it's much like cannabis, codeine, or propoxyphene. It's has been said to be much more of a hypnotic effect rather than a hallucinatory effect. There has also been the alkaloid apomorphine, which has just recently been isolated by independent labs.
The blue lotus water lily flower also has a sexual effect on people. The famous Dr. Liz Williamson says that the flower does have "a sort of Viagra effect". In scenes from the film Turin, you'll notice the women are wearing close to nothing, other than the white lily as a headdress. These women were wooed with the blue water lily.
Due to the psychoactive properties that blue lotus has, recent studies have shown that the blue lotus may have been used as a sacrament in ancient Egypt, as well as certain ancient South American cultures.
Used in aromatherapy the blue lotus produces psychoactive effects that are purported to have a "divine" essence, which brings upon the feelings of tranquility and euphoria. There are also reports of the blue water lily producing an anti-spasmodic and sedative, purfying and calming effect.

Blue Lotus Experiences:

Experience Report 1

I recently tried kratom and a blue lotus 20x extract from my favorite vendor. I used my usual does of kratom - a couple of spoonfuls of plain leaf (freshly ground of course) and consumed on an empty stomach.
This concoction made a very nice buzz. I washed the blue lotus extract down with some red wine 1 hour after consuming the kratom. I felt great, really buzzed - not droopy or heavy - more laid back, spaced out and dreamy. I played my guitar whilst I was energized from my kratom, but when the blue lotus and wine started to take effect my song style changed. I switched from heavy rock to slow jazz.
This was a great experience and one I'll be doing again and again. Thank you. Blue lotus extract enhances the kratom effects.

Here's my report from experience

Lotus

Appearance: dried flower heads almost like rose buds. Slightly pinkish colour.

Smoking
To fit a flower head into bowl for smoking I crumble it between my fingers. Problem is it crumbles far too finely and is small enough to pass through screen.

Smoking effects
Tried 2 bowls of lotus without crumboling and just ignite full flower head.
Taste is nice and mild, makes a pleasant smoke.
I had also had a glass of wine or two before hand.
Only possible effect is that half an hour later I felt pretty tired and heavy-lidded. It was late though so reckon I would have been tired anyway.

In reviews, most people seem to smoke more than this amount to get effect, but I'm not a fan of smoking, so I did not have much interest in using lotus this way, I just gave this a try to see.
So - on to the alcohol extraction!

Wine Infusion
Soaked 10g full lotus heads in half a bottle of white wine (350ml). Amounted to about two or three glasses of wine
This was left for two weeks and shaken daily.

I have to say, I had not expected it to taste as bad as it does. Most reports did not seem to find the taste too objectional, just describing it as bitter, so I hadn't prepared myself for this taste. I thought I could sit back and enjoy a few glasses of wine, but this really needs to be downed. It only has a bitter after taste, but I wasn't really expecting it (I have eaten cactus and heard so much about its taste that when i tried it I didn't even think it was too bad! This is just a lack of psychologically expecting a bad taste.). I had to drink it alongside eating to eliminate taste, which works fairly well.

For this reason I strongly reccommend preparing it with a grain spirit (as there are reports of on Erowid) as you will have less to drink.

Wine Infusion Effects
None!
Felt drunker than I normally would on this amount of wine, but
given that I had to drink wine fairly quickly this is most likely what explains this effect.
I watched a film for half an hour and listened to music in bed for half an hour before going to sleep.
I felt relaxed and in a good mood for this time, but really this can be attributed to my own mindset and alcohol alone.

I have also read that lotus is an aphrodisiac, I did not find this at all. GBL, alcohol, mushrooms and weed all have an aphrodiasiac qualtiy for me, so I would consider myself as someone who easily gets this effect.

I experienced no next day after effects.

Conclusion
I felt no definite effects from this. I hadn't expected too much from it, I just decided to give it a go as it was so cheap.

Think that it may have a use as being smoked with weed in a joint in place of tobacco. Taste was quite reasonable in pipe.

I wouldn't reccommend this to anyone, but I wouldn't discourage anyone from trying it either as there are some very positive reports on erowid.

I have had lotus smoke blends, most likely jwh based.  Reports of aura visuals all come from tincture reports.  I will probably wait on purchasing it, but its definately staying on my to do list.

I got some 15x tincture but I don't have a clue about the dosage. Lotus users out there, how much drops do you usually need for a nice effect?

Most things I have seen are 3 drops per dosage.

I tried it yesterday, and well, I didn't feel anything I wouldn't attribute to simply being tired. I ate around 4 grams of the stuff soaked in red wine. It tasted horrible. Won't be trying this again.

I'm pretty sure it supposed to be WHITE wine.  And yes I want the drops, but I'm on a dry campus (bullshit) so I can't put it in wine.

Source? I've never read anything which suggests it must be white wine specifically, just 'wine' is always stated.

I drank an entire 10ml 15x tincture bottle the other day, didn't feel shit. I used to soak resin extract in wine, which came from the same source and that was working fine. Guess I'll go back to that.
