Trichoderma is good!

Anyone found a use for their spent, trichoderma-contaminated casings? I have...
I scrape the top of my casings after they get contaminated and get as much of the green, sporulating mass as I can, then mix it with water in a pitcher and feed it to my plants. Trichoderma is a mycorrhizal fungus that is found in EVERY major biological innoculant one would buy from a grow store (plant success, great white, oregonism, etc.), and I've found that by innoculating my houseplants and garden (even my high-dollar crop plants) with an indigenous species of trich, the effects are even more pronounced. My plants show less watering stress, are greener, fuller, and more responsive to organic fertilizer.
I usually bury the rest of the casings in decorative wood chip gardens. One can hope...

My houseplants seem to be able to go longer in between waterings too, and my grass garden looks incredible, with absolutely no parasitic fungi/bacteria or bugs on the leaves.
I was reading the back of my package of Great White and noticed that it contained about 15-18 different species, but that the spore count for the two varieties of trichoderma it contained were collectively higher than everything else combined. Look at pretty much any biological innoculant for gardening, and the most represented fungus is trichoderma.
Taken from the Wiki page on Trichoderma: "Several strains of Trichoderma have been developed as biocontrol agents against fungal diseases of plants.[2] The various mechanisms include antibiosis, parasitism, inducing host-plant resistance, and competition. Most biocontrol agents are from the species T. harzianum, T. viride and T. hamatum. The biocontrol agent generally grows in its natural habitat on the root surface, and so affects root disease in particular, but can also be effective against foliar diseases."
This is exactly what I have noticed. Trich is aggressive and strong, and will keep nasties out of your dirt and off of your leaves.

OK, ya' got me.
I'll have to try this...never thought I would intentionally grow Trich.
Thanks for the info!

But would spreading it around the house give you a higher chance for contamination in the future?

Personally I'll only be trying it on the outdoor garden...safty first!

Haha, that you have!
The difference that adding trich to your garden makes is huge.

I haven't noticed that it has. I live in a fairly dry climate, so the top inch or two of soil on my plants stays dry most of the time. I don't notice any mycelium there, but if you go down a bit deeper, it's a party in the soil!
If you haven't read it, "Teaming with Microbes, an Organic Gardener's Guide to the Soil Food Web," is a great resource that outlines what's going on underground, and how to use natural biological processes to strengthen soil over time with life.
