They are starting to turn on joe pa
    #12934420 - 07/22/10 10:06 AM (2 years, 9 months ago)

i knew it was only a matter of time.

last few years all they did was talk about when how and why bobby bowden should retire.

now that he's gone the spotlight is on Paterno.

Time to run him outa town.

That's BS. He's a legend! Bobby Bowden was a great one also and FSU was my team, i just hate the best athletes in FL are all criminals. I guess they got fast from running from crimes!

What they did to Bowden was a fucking disgrace. I hope they let Joe Pa go on his own terms or let him stay until he dies or whatever he wants. Goddamn, look what he's done for them. It's so fucked these days.

It was. No one has loyalty in sports anymore. I find myself getting disgusted in general!

i remember about 2 or 3 years ago you started to hear this kind of stuff about bowden.

the fucking cycle is repeating itself.

hopefully joe pa gets to leave on his own terms. i'd hate to see another classy, legend get shoved out on his ass.

It sucks to see them forced out but at the same time this is all set up to make big bucks. Universities can't afford to let legendary coaches stick around just to hang in the realms of mediocrity.

Thing is PSU has been plenty solid lately so I wouldn't worry about JoePa being forced out. If anything he'll have to leave because of health. The article is written by some ESPN blogger but the AD says he's not worried so it doesn't seem like it's worth getting worked up about... yet.

He may in fact, be a literal bum, only able to make himself known to us here by occasionally stopping into dark internet cafes to make a few quick, frantic posts before the owners force him to leave because of the stench of rotting vegetables and desperation wafting forth from his pores.

I agree, Penn State has been in up in the rankings the past couple years. I would have to think most Penn State fans are pretty happy with the program right now and they continue to land solid recruiting classes as well

Bowden is completely different because FSU really started to suck for a good number of years

real college football fans know that Joe Paterno is a novelty act..and does little to nothing with the day to day operation of the football team.

he does not coach, he does not make decisions. the guy cant even name the players on his team.

he is there for show and for recruiting. that is it

They play in the ACC, it would be pretty damn hard for them not to have a winning record. But they certainly have been living up to what they used to be. I dont remember the last time they played in a bowl game of any significance.

Them and the Miami Hurricanes both dropped off big time, imo.

Recruiting is probably the most important element in college football success.

Plus I still believe he has a larger coaching role that deadHead believes.

His players love him

yeah i agree.

but Penn State arent even recruiting the best high school players in their own state. the best HS players in Pennsylvania are going to other programs. notably Terrell Pryor..going to one of PSU's biggest rivals Ohio State.

cmon Pickels. its clear JoePa is not on top of his team. look at the cases of domestic violence that have riddled the program the past few years. there have been a number of off the field incidents that have led to the expulsion of players from the program. you know why..because nobody is scared of paterno.

Joe's son, Jay Paterno is the real brains behind the program..and has been for nearly a decade.

I wonder who taught him :smirk:

Coaches cant stop players from getting in trouble, they find ways to do that on their own. Sure they have had their issues, but what university hasnt?

With the ACC leveling out over the years, teams getting better, i think FSU dropped their recruiting standards. I mean they have always had shady players, but it seemed like the last few years, its been straight up criminals, or idiots failing and being ineligible. I think the age and race gap just didnt let him "connect" with guys like he used to.

Myron Rolle is the exception. Its not just here either, its on every level. Pampered athletes, molded by coaches and family as a meal ticket, instead of a person. Ethics go out the window for the pursuit of big dollars.

"Joe Paterno is a novelty act..and does little to nothing with the day to day operation of the football team."

Right.  But he can stay there as long as he wants.  Ever see that episode of Star trek whith Captain Pike?  That could be JoePa, except his brain would also be shot all to hell.  The players do love him, he is a legend.  A real throwback to another era, several eras ago actually.  Classic.
