Teenagers treated after smoking 'K2 Spice'

Local parents are being warned by the Wakulla County Sheriff's Office about the potential dangers of teens smoking a substance called "K2 Spice" which can be purchased at tobacco shops and online. The herbal incense has been banned in several states, but not in Florida.
On Friday, Wakulla County Sheriff's Lt. Mike Kemp responded to a call and found that a 17-year-old girl had become unresponsive after smoking the substance, department spokesman Lt. Keith Blackmar said. The girl and a 17-year-old boy who was also smoking the incense were taken to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital where they were treated and released. The product they used was called "Space Spice."
Blackmar said investigators have learned that the substance contains synthetic chemicals that imitate marijuana's effects on the brain. It is said to look similar to potpourri. In a release issued Tuesday, Sheriff David Harvey said smoking the substance can lead to "panic attacks, heart palpitations, hallucinations, dilated pupils and other symptoms."
Sgt. Ed Cook of Tallahassee Police Department's vice narcotics unit said he was aware of the substance.
"I think it is more of a fad due to its high cost and more dangerous effects when compared to marijuana," Cook said. "Since it is a legal substance, I think kids are doing it just to skirt the law."
A May report in USA Today said there have been 352 K2 related cases in 35 states this year, based on reports from poison centers across the country. Alabama, Kansas and Kentucky have banned the substance.

sounds like space spice is some potent stuff compared to some of the ones ive tried.Ill have to look out for it

nah the people smoking it were probably noobs and just flipped out. Jwh panic attacks are awful but they end so quickly even with the pure powder that you wouldnt even be in that state of mind by the time you got to the hospital. If people did the time to read a few pages on google they would be prepared for a panic attack and would be able to ride it out. I wouldnt of gone to the hospital but it sure did make it a ton easier when i did have an OD being able to tell myself "this will all be over in 20 minutes like everyone said on the shroomery" and of course it was.

Yeah im sure they were just noobs. But the jwh blends ive smoked I really dont see how they could cause that. And ive smoked alot with people who have really low tolerance

ive seen two people puke off of k2. then again ive seen people puke off of marijuana too. i think its all about sensitivity, its much easyer to smoke too much k2 than too much weed imo just cuz some spice realy is potent...Quote:

I actually threw up a couple nights ago from some of that shit, not K2, but "sonic blueberry." I like K2 because it seems to be far more mild than a lot of the other blends out there.

the strongest one i have tryed is called spike max. i smoked a big bowl the other day and had a bad panic attack to the point of thinking i was going to die... hallucinations, spazms, and my heart pounding at about 180 bpm. it lasted 15 or 20 min then i had a little to eat and felt fine

Well said. Even if you went to the hospital for a JWH panic attack, doctors still can't do anything to make you better other than give you a bed to sleep on. They can't suck all the JWH out of your tissues or blood.
JWH overdoses suck, but to me alcohol hangovers are worse.

its just easy to smoke too much with Space.. especially since people are in the bad habit of hit pass hit pass hit pass.. too fast. take one hit... wait a bit then if you think you need more take another..

It is just like a weed panic attack albeit an extreme one but one thing that is different is you have the thought of "nobody knows what this shit does to our brains/bodys" and your mind will run wild with that. It also causes extreme loss of coordination at high doses and it def isnt fun I hated every second of each time I OD'd on it but I never would of gone to the hospital.
