The word is related to the Latin word phallus, phalli, which is basically the same word in Greek too apparently, phallos. It's the same word as phallic, penis-like. The naming of the word using -oides is definitely not Latin though, so whoever named this mixed Latin and Greek. Whoever knows anything about ancient Greek pronunciations, and how Greek nouns misapplied as adjectives decline hundreds of years later can step in now.
